Senator to replace Sessions is Strange
Pun intended

On the same day that Alabama Republican Jeff Sessions was sworn in as U.S. attorney general, Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley ® appointed one of the state's most-watched Republican politicians to fill Sessions's now-vacant U.S. Senate seat: Luther Strange. Strange, the sitting Alabama attorney general, has been groomed for this job for decades, insiders say, and if he can win election in 2018, he could hold it for decades to come.

But, it's Alabama, so there's always political intrigue afoot. In appointing Strange, 63, to the Senate on Thursday, Bentley has in some ways appointed his political foe. And that has put the embattled governor on the defensive back home.

I hope our fellow Alabama good ol boys can tell us about what is going on in Alabama with the so called sex scandal.

Total disconnect. Strange and Bentley's campaigns were both funded by Paul W. Bryant Jr. and play for Team Dog Track (we DO have a two-party system in Alabama: those owned by the tracks vs. those owned by the Poarch Creek Indian casinos). But Big Luther isn't fully trusted by the Machine because he went to Tulane rather than coming up through the right UAT frats and UA Law.

Big Luther now claims that while it's true he asked the State House to suspend the impeachment proceedings, he never said the AG's office was investigating. That's almost the same wording as Bentley's explanation of the boob audio (he said he did it, but never did what he said and is only guilty of "inappropriate remarks") and likely was written by the same flack. The State Reps who had started the impeachment (who are also little R's before any righteous panties get bunched) are very angry.

Big Luther has sex scandal whispers of his own. I have no personal knowledge of their veracity, but they will be fully deployed in 2018. I expect a nasty primary, followed by a ritual-sacrifice Democratic opponent.
