BP is an idiot; Spatters are definitely our biggest rival.

W&M is not as exciting as the budding rivalries with the OOC teams mentioned in this thread.
I don't really agree. I do think UR is JMU's rival and vice versa - the hate/jealousy is real. JMU takes public funds and invests like crazy in its sports programs to build stadiums and such, but no real money to finish the deal. UR has a yuuuuge endowment with a stadium size issue. The profiles of the two schools may be different, but the league is the same.
But I get BP's point... I think.
I would agree we are nobody's primary rival with the possible exception of Towson but I don't think anyone here cares too much about them. Our top 3 FB rivals are RU, UD, and W&M in that order. RU's primary rival is W&M and vice-versa. UD's primary rival is VU.

seems villanova should be in the mix...
but no matter - we can (and should) still play any of them as our cupcake when we go FBS

RE: Sleeping Giant
you can have more than one rival.
all of the Nerds and the Ticks and the Chickens are big rivals.
none bigger than the other, but all 3 are big rivals. its crazy to say otherwise.
that was a huge benefit of the old CAA. With ODU, VCU and GMU mixed in, for hoops, it seemed like you were playing a rivalry game every week.

RE: Sleeping Giant
Guarantee you if someone who wasn't a JMU fan asked the Spatters who their biggest rival is, it'd be us. If we asked, they'd say the nerds.

DING DING DING DING DING!!!!! WE HAVE A WINNER!!!
exactly right, and backs up what I was saying earlier.... if they are being HONEST, the team they want to beat more than ANY other team is us. check out AGS and notice the difference between "JMU Week" and "W&M Week". it's not close. not even remotely close. they feel that saying W&M is their rival puts them in the same category academically (which, as we all know is total crap). it's a shot at us when they say that, but don't be fooled. we are the #1 team they want to beat every year.

RE: Sleeping Giant
UR has a friendly rivalry with W&M. They have a hated rivalry with us and VCU. ODU use to be VCUs biggest rival but that is changing. UR is becoming the biggest rival of VCU now that they are in the same conference.
I feel like Nova football is a big rivalry for us in addition to the schools already mentioned. The games are usually tightly contested and the CAA championship is often on the line when we play each other in November.

Clearly, none of you have noticed how few Tick fans make the two hour drive to Harrisonburg to see a game. I promise you it's not 500 and probably closer to 200. To be a rival you have to have some passion for the event. Nova brings more to BFS than does RU. ODU brought a ton as did Appy. Richmond fans really do not care. They hate us simply because we have passion and do care about our team. I hate them because they wear red sweaters and all that can be associated with those who do.

Saying they suck as fans does not mean that we aren't their rival. They don't want to come to our young hip campus and be insulted; they are happy to watch on Madizone from the comfort of their own homes in the West End.

RE: Sleeping Giant
Spidies are afraid of Dukes. I'm not sure why. It's a weird phenomenon that I don't really notice anywhere else. They get paranoid about the influx to their stadium as if they are expecting an armed insurrection rather than a football game. I guess this would also explain why most are also scared to come to BFS.

Apparently streamers are objects of intimidation to other fan groups as witnessed by the scared YSU fans at the NCG.

The Ticks sure have a lot of rivals. I guess that is fueled by the fact that their fans hate anyone that has something bigger or better.
