RE: OT: GW-VCU game last night (2/8)
Potomac, You may like watching basketball more if you would have never seen an the NBA game since LaBron's been playing. :)
A flop is when there's little to no contact. There was certainly contact but Lewis also did a good job selling it along with perfect timing. Again, textbook charge. The controversy is; Lewis's foot is on the base line. So doesn't the charge exist even if he's "out of bounds"? The play is designed to do exactly what happened. Draw the foul and if that doesn't happen, create a lane for the long pass by forcing the defender to move around the screen. I happen to believe if the Davidson defender would have seen Lewis, he would have adjusted slightly, forcing Lewis to move, therefore it would have been a moving screen. Davidson ball, game over.

Just curious, why do you keep saying Davidson?
Also, technically it isn't a charge, right? I mean the defender fouled and didn't have the ball in his hands.

With .4 seconds you only have time to tip a shot and not catch and shoot. GW would have won had they just stood there or started walking to the bench. What are the odds the inbounder throws a ball near the rim 94 feet away.

It was a brilliant understanding of the game by the coach, and brilliant execution by the player. There was literally no other way VCU could win besides that exact play.

I agree. I was thinking at the end of a game, they need to subtract X amount of time from the game clock every time a foul is committed - sort of like a penalty in a football game during the last few minutes Anything just to get the darn game moving along.

Slightly OT in this OT thread.
Hero Sports is already calling for Shaka Smart's head at Texas. Goodness Gracious, he just got there. Moving up to the P5 as a coach can be treacherous for those that don't win, win quickly and win big.

There's a 105 page discussion on the Ram's board. IMHO The first 100 pages aren't worth reading. Coaching 4 & 5 star players is a whole lot different than coaching 3 & 4 stars. Their record this year also hurts Shaka's name when it comes to recruiting.

Not really calling for his head.
If Shaka Smart doesn’t pick things up in the 2017-18 season, it isn’t unreasonable to think Longhorns fans and their administration may direct their impatience towards Smart and their basketball program.
More like suggesting that the administration might look around IF next year is not successful.
Shaka is 39 years old and is under contact through the 22-23 season. IF they replace him he will have made at least $9M (excluding any buy out of the remaining $12M + on his contract) for his troubles. Treacherous maybe, but financially rewarding.

A couple of other VCU/Shaka related notes. Tevin Mack a recruit who Smart brought with him from his time at VCU just announced that he is transferring out of Texas. VCU also lost on the road at Dayton last night. Charles Cooke led the flyers with 20 points.
