RE: Crunch Week, Part I -- ODU at MTSU, 2/9/17 @ 8:00 ET
Don't look now, but we are still in 4th place. We are 1/2 game ahead of 5 teams though. If we lose a couple more we could drop by as much as 5-6 pretty easily.
We are 7-5. The 5 teams that are 6-5 are Rice, Marshall, WKU, UTSA, UTEP.
Rice: We don't play again
Marshall: Play at home 2/23
WKU: Play at home 2/25
UTSA: Play away last game of the season 3/4
UTEP: Play away 3/2
Predictions kind of go out the window, but one thing is for certain, that 4th place spot looks shaky as hell right now.

If we get a top 4 spot I'll be stunned.

We currently lose tie breakers to all of the top 8 teams except for Rice and WKU. Not looking good at all.

We don't deserve a top 4 spot right now. We're going to finish like 6th in the freaking CUSA...let that sink in. Remember when we NEVER finished outside the top 4 (and in a conference that was full of top 100 teams).

Last year we were a 5th seed and almost won it. It really doesn't matter. Although thats true for a lot of reasons.

I remember. We were 5th last year with Freeman. I hope we get to 6th this year.

It matters in the sense that we lose the first round bye. Teams who forgo that luxury almost never win conference tournaments. It also matters because it shows just how far we have fallen. I'm running out of patience fast.

I have a hard time getting overly concerned with where we are seeded for the C-USA tournament. Even if we could somehow pull off a miracle in Birmingham, I don't know how exciting it would be to be a 16 seed in the dance just to get beat by 30 by Villanova.

I'm saying it doesn't matter because this team doesn't have a prayer of winning 3 or 4 games in 3 or 4 days. Not with guys that can't shoot or make FT's. The best team in the league made us look like it was the first time our team has ever played on the same team together.

Not likely to happen, but I'll take it.

We are only young because of jones terrible recruiting.
The upperclassmen we have can't get on the court. Those are jones recruits. That is on him and him alone.
We are not good right now. This statement contradicts itself though. If the upperclassmen ("Jones recruits") can't get on the floor, by nature more recent Jones recruits are better and keeping them on the bench.

Would love to see us get back to playing our biggest lineup.... How about Porter...B. Stith.....Talley....With BJ Stith and Caver....All on the floor at the same time.... I know the first thing someone is going to bring up is Taylor and Baker....sorry but don't think either should be starting or getting the minutes they are receiving....
No...Enough with Taylor and Baker. They need to sit for their lack of leadership, as much as Haynes sits for his bad shots. No more excuses for these two. Find yourselves as leaders, or sit down.
There is a place in the rotation for Taylor and Baker but you can't have them both on the court at one time. You can't have two of your five players on the court present nearly no offensive threat unless the other three are unstoppable. That's not the case for us with any other three player combination.
Exactly, I noticed for a couple of minutes in the second half last night Jones played Stith and Porter together. I wish he would have given that a longer run. As much as I like Taylor and Baker they are eating up about 40% of our court time. One of the reasons our offense bogs down is we don't have a two guard that can penetrate. When the opposing team is pressuring Caver, Baker brings the ball across half court. He does that fine but waits for Caver to get free to start the offense. A good penetrating guard could put us in plenty of 4 on 3 situations to create a basket. And Taylor doesn't even look at the basket 95% of the time. Haynes may not be the answer but at least he can create a shot. I do like Baker but more as a spot player. I hate to say it but I thought we looked a lot more fluid the game he was suspended. A good team like MTSU is just not going to allow him to spot up for three pointers.

My head tells me we go 2-3, but my gut says 3-2.

I guess it's just me, but I can't get to excited about where this team ends up in the pecking order. 4,5,6,7 who cares? It all stinks so all we're talking about is how bad is the odor.

If Jones wants to mix things up, hows this for a lineup:
Fields/Pinkney at point, Caver, BJ, Taylor and Stith
Caver is probably our best 3 point option and taking him off the point may keep him fresh. Between him and BJ it would at least make someone guard the 3 point line. We are already turning the ball over around 15 times a game now so why not try having more guys on the court that are comfortable with the ball in their hands.
Rotate Haynes for BJ, Talley for Taylor and Porter for Stith. Jordan can spell Fields/Pinkney and Caver can slide back to point, but not when Denzel is in the game.

Its true. 4,5,6 in a poor conference is pretty bad. I want the team to do well, I'm rooting for them and still watch, but its not easy. Win the CUSA tourney or stay home. I'm ready for next season already.

Not really a fan of putting bad players in the lineup.
If he wants to switch things up, give Kah a chance to sink or swim. Sample size is tiny and he does some real headscratching things, but put Kah in there more.
Caver
BJ
Talley
Kah
Stith/Porter
Taylor can spot Kah a little bit and Baker/Haynes can back up the wing spot.
