UConn about to come a-knocking?
http://www.fanragsports.com/cbb/rothstei...all-heats/
If they try to move basketball to a non-football conference (Big East, A-10, etc), they'll have to find a home for their football program.
The only way I would say yes to letting them into the MAC is with:
1. A partner to make it an even 14 teams in football
2. A six game-per-year scheduling deal in men's and women's basketball, three home and three away
3. A minimum five-year contract with an eight-figure buyout

If their football program contained any value, the AAC would agree to keep them as football only members. It doesn't and getting a couple basketball games won't make up for the MAC having to split its CFP money more ways.

RE: UConn about to come a-knocking?
I have long favored adding two eastern teams to enlarge the footprint for football.
I will get some blow back but I'd also consider Army for FB only (they are very happy in the Patriot league for other sports).
Yes, a scheduling alliance for those two schools would be great for MBB and WBB. [EMU is desperate for home and home type arrangements for basketball and would be happy to get some games vs. Army and UConn.]
I Tweeted @JonRothstein. Curious if he will reply (I suggest UConn and Army FB only members).

And their women have to agree to lose to the MAC team with the second best record in the year's final regular season game, assuring us of an ocassional at-large bid.

RE: UConn about to come a-knocking?
I say this can only happen if it benefits the MAC financially which means ESPN would have to want to do this and increase our contract $ to cover UConn.
Otherwise, just sign a scheduling agreement with UConn and UMass. We'll give both of them 4 football games (2 home and 2 away) for them to come and play us at home in basketball. They can stay indy in football but this will make sure they have enough home games in Oct. and Nov. to stay indy. MAC doesnt share any money, TV, or bowls with them (unless there is a deal that benefits the MAC) and UConn's new Big East and Top rated bball program plays a couple MAC teams at our arenas every year.

No thank you on UConn. Too big of a flight risk.
All sports with a 10million+ enterance fee AND a travel partner only if the MAC's back was totally against the wall, or no dice....

You raise an interesting point about television.
Would ESPN toss in an extra $1M for UConn?
If UConn is added, what about Army? What about Army's television contract with CBSSN?
I would think that any teams added for football must not lead to a dilution of television monies for the 12 MAC schools.

RE: UConn about to come a-knocking?
Uconn might get more of a reception from a breakaway of CUSA East who have nothing to lose at this point.
Uconn, Umass, Army, ODU, Charlotte, Georgia St, FAU, FIU, WKU, MTSU.....10 members in FB, 8 in olympic sports. They might be alright with propping up UConn FB only for a decent TV deal.
Then So.Miss to AAC and CUSA takes replacements from the SBC so we are back to 5 conferences but more regional.

Do we really want to play UConn women in nonleague basketball games? What good does it do to get beat by 40-60?

For places like Akron, it would probably mean 5,000 instead of the typical less than 1,000 show up, just to see the sideshow that UConn is, even though everybody would know it is going to be a 110-40 type game.
Connecticut's women would be like the Harlem Globetrotters to the MAC's Washington Generals. People would still show up, just to see them, despite already knowing the outcome.
I don't want this to come off wrong because I'm a proponent of Title IV and what it has done for female athletes. But if losing to Connecticut by 50-80 points brings in money for the school, it's the price to pay.
How many football programs have walked into a bloodbath to make money for a school? This, in a much smaller scale, would be the same thing.

Sounds to me you're for equality. Our men's teams in both basketball and football have been doing it for decades.

Quote:The Big East and UConn have had recent discussions about the Huskies joining the conference, multiple sources told FanRag Sports.
FanRag Sports reported last week that UConn had looked into joining the conference and one source confirmed on Wednesday that the Big East would take the Huskies in all sports.
The issue then for UConn would be to find a home for its football program, which wouldn’t be able to join the Big East because the league’s participants do not have football.
“The Big East would take UConn in everything, but they need to resolve what they’re going to do with football,” one source said. “That’s the only thing that’s standing in the way of a marriage.”
Multiple sources told FanRag Sports that Big East basketball coaches have been in major favor of the league’s double round-robin format and one source confirmed on Wednesday that the Big East would be willing to expand to 20 league games if and when UConn became a member in men’s basketball.
