Quote:The Big East and UConn have had recent discussions about the Huskies joining the conference, multiple sources told FanRag Sports.
FanRag Sports reported last week that UConn had looked into joining the conference and one source confirmed on Wednesday that the Big East would take the Huskies in all sports.
The issue then for UConn would be to find a home for its football program, which wouldn’t be able to join the Big East because the league’s participants do not have football.
“The Big East would take UConn in everything, but they need to resolve what they’re going to do with football,” one source said. “That’s the only thing that’s standing in the way of a marriage.”
Multiple sources told FanRag Sports that Big East basketball coaches have been in major favor of the league’s double round-robin format and one source confirmed on Wednesday that the Big East would be willing to expand to 20 league games if and when UConn became a member in men’s basketball.
Thanks for the post.
I wouldn't be surprised that more and more power conferences want more round robin games and less out of conference game.
I would think the MAC would only get two men's and two women's games per year. Obviously one home and one away.
Curious what you, Steve1981, think about Army and UConn joining the MAC FB only??
(MAC and UMass was an amicable divorce, I guess, so they are out of the picture).
Think the Army/UConn combo sounds great, but never seen Army interested in the MAC. As far as we are concerned, don't know, except our current AD Ryan Bamford is more pro FBS than the last guy.
Obviously like to see an UConn and UMass combo to the MAC. Think the AAC would just forget about the Northeast. Obviously some would like us but those in Texas, probably not and not enough for a consensuses.
Big Picture it would help the G5 to be more regional. If CUSA loses one team to the AAC then JMU could get the call up. There is less risk to the MAC with a UConn/UMass package as we are natural rivals. Of course anything is possible, even UConn blowing smoke for more money from ESPN.

I would take UConn .and. (Army .or. UMass). I love that notation of .and. .or. and parentheses... It shows exactly what I'm thinking.
Either outcome: UConn and Army OR UConn and UMass would get the MAC into the Northeast.
Army would get us some national exposure and fits beautifully being close to NYC.
One thing about Army - with Navy in the AAC both academies would be in conferences with a conference championship. That would give both academies parallel schedules, etc.

Absolutely not on a football only deal with Marshall! They bring nothing of value to the table in regard to their other sports. Heck they barely bring enough in football and that's where they put all their resources.
A UConn and UMass combo with a basketball scheduling agreement is intriguing. There should be an understanding that if one exits they both exit.

I know that UMass does play in the A10 but in most years they don't bring anything to the table in FB or BB.
The MAC would be better to look at Old Dominion. ODU would bring more competitive football and a viable location for a bowl game to the MAC. They can park sports in the Colonial or A10.

Not sure about ODU. Why would they want to move?
The 'common thread' of this thread is that some teams may need a home for their FB teams.
UConn may need a home for their FB team.
UMass needs a home for their FB team.
Army might be persuaded that they need a home for their FB team.
Also part of the common thread is that all three are very much located where the MAC would be interested in being.

There is no reason for them to move, even if they wanted it, JMU is part of the package

UConn and UMass needs a miracle, and I do not see it unless there are at least 5-8 Indy's to help them. NO MORE FB ONLY'S
Army might be persuaded that they need a home for their FB team.
Unless forced to by the NCAA, Army will stay Independent

If the MAC ever decided to do anything one of two things happens:
-At least 3 Schools leave/Forced out/Down
-Gets more $$$ to add schoools
Glad EMU is on the upswing in football and safe from the Grim Reaper...
If Akron (not because of MBB, but FB) and Kent State (because of FB) are forced down by the football Grim Reaper, who would represent N.E. Ohio in the MAC?

EMU's last bowl win was 2 years before I was born?

Cincinnati,UConn, UMass, and Temple all sports. That would boost the MAC ahead of the AAC in both football and basketball. Having the rivals together in each division would make for better competition.
MAC East -
UConn
UMass
Temple
Buffalo
Akron
Kent State
BGSU
Toledo
MAC West-
Cincinnati
Miami
Ohio
EMU
CMU
WMU
Ball State
NIU

I hear you.
Akron won a bowl game 2015 so Akron is safe.
I guess Kent is low man on the totem poll.
Kent made a MAC title game in 2013 (and was a win away from the Orange Bowl)... EMU shoots back to the bottom, lol.
BTW, Akron, Kent, EMU (in that order) have been the overall best athletic programs in the league for the past 5 years. Don't think any of them really have to worry, unless Coke/Pepsi goes out of business.

Cincy will not work in this speculation, they are going to the big 12 remeber
I would be open to UMass and UConn, football only, for now, with the longer term goal being to add a couple of full members in the east (for example: UMass and Stony Brook).
I've always thought expanding east has the most potential to strengthen our league by adding television sets to our footprint.
