I think Toledo fans are getting a bit carried away with the "dominance" they have had over Akron. Akron has historically struggled at Toledo, so those two losses were hardly surprising. The loss in 2013 at home was a bit surprising, but that was an Akron team that finished 9-9 in MAC play (the worst MAC record a Dambrot team has had at UA). Two years ago, the home game went right down to the wire and Akron missed the potential game-winner at the buzzer.
BTW, since you brought up Toledo's record vs. the East, Akron is 7-0 against the West, for what that's worth.
It should be a great game because Toledo is as good as anybody in the league the few times they've been on top of their game; see Saturday against Kent.
Akron, despite the 11-1 record, has also actually been pretty inconsistent. Unlike the rest of the league, they've been able to scratch out wins when not playing well and they have at least put together 4-5 dominant stretches (Ohio second half, @WMU first half, @NIU second half, EMU first half, @EMU second half) to pull away in the league race.
I'm sure Akron is going to get Toledo's best effort (Akron, frankly, gets everybody's best effort) and the Rockets (along with Buffalo and Kent) are the only other MAC teams that have had a string of recent success against the Zips, so there won't be any 29-home winning streak intimidation factor (though I actually don't think anybody in the league has lost a game at the JAR in this streak due to being intimidated).
I'm sure the four-game streak has Toledo fans (and players) feeling confident. As an Akron fan, I'm also confident that this team will continue to do enough to pull out another win.
