I don't understand how he could make this move after investing so much time at Alabama.

When I met Sark a few weeks before the NC game he stunk of alcohol and there were strong rumors that his drinking had not fully abated.

He coached a good game in the NC but I don't think that would have been consistent given his other problems.

I wish him all the best though. He is a nice guy and a fantastic coach. I hope he gets everything under control because he could be truly great.

I don't see how going to the NFL, which requires even more time, energy and effort than college coaching, would be able to help him with his personal drinking problems. Frankly, I believe he should have taken the full year away from coaching in order to get fully clean and healthy. If what you say is true, then it could only get worse once he gets going at Atlanta.

If he hasn't acknowledged that he is an alcoholic, and continues to drink, how could he hope to cope with the stresses of the NFL? Sounds like he is headed for another crash. Surprising the Falcons would take on such a risk.

Last I checked, you're not going to high schools, working phones, kissing teenage *** (and their parents'), and dealing with boosters in the pro's. You do your job. If you love coaching, hey, that's the place for you. If it's more intense, it's probably because you actually spend more time coaching and less time being a parent or some ambassador for the school. More wining and dining.

You don't have people constantly shopping their jobs around in the pro's. It's...the pro's. You actually have an offseason in the one, where you're dealing with the drama of these hotshot kids and practices, and practice requirements, and eligibility and behavioral issues in the other. In one, the players are adults with rights and contracts. In the other, they're expendable free labor. One's a business. The other one tries to pass itself off as one, but takes the hue of a scofflaw, not paying taxes or labor.

I'll take the pro's any time, and day of the week. Sark's better off there, so long as he can produce and win. He'd have to continue to do that at the other, too, though.

I have always liked Sark and I credit him with turning our program around. I wish him all the best and I hope for his sake that this decision helps him stay away from the bottle

It would be very sad to see someone with his coaching acumen piss it all away because of alcoholism.

If true, I am sad for Sark. Addiction is terrible. The stress of coaching isn't going to make it easier.
