I was surprised too. I think the call likely would have stood, but if there is any play that was worth a challenge, that one was.

Don't all turnovers (and scoring plays) get an automatic review? New England could have challenged if the call on the field had been incomplete, but Atlanta didn't have to formally challenge the fumble call.

That is correct. All turnovers get an automatic review, and coaches are supposed to be assessed an unsportsmanlike penalty if they throw their flag to try to force a review. The booth is automatically supposed to look at it, to see if it's something the ref should have a closer look at. If they think it should be reviewed, they'll buzz down.

Unlike college, the replay booth is not the one determining whether it should be overturned.

Fun tidbit: It was Assoc. AD of Development Brian Mann who threw the football to Lady Gaga at the end of the halftime show

Fabulous!! A perfect toss, it seemed. Excellent local-news video explanation in that twitter link.

How far down and into what did she jump after catching the football? (It was off-camera.)

RE: Super Bowl
Don't know if everyone realizes this but apparently Lady Gaga's part on the roof was taped a week before the Super Bowl.

And the city of Houston is getting rave reviews for the job we did. Some local radio folks were speculating Houston might join New Orleans, Phoenix and Miami in the unofficial rotation of host cities (along with the plethora of cities with new stadiums like Minnesota, Atlanta and LA - the next 3 hosts). But I don't think that will be the case. One Texans front office staffer told me he didn't think it will come back until we get another new stadium, and he admitted that probably won't happen for decades.

Rice News published this photo of the QB-WR duo:

"Mann practiced the routine with Gaga Tuesday through Friday ..." Fun gig! Congrats, Brian.
