RE: 2017 FB Roster Notes
You guys may forget this now...but Schor had multiple FBS offers coming out of HS as well. JMU has had a nice little string of success going at the QB position when it comes to getting talent.

Brian is shifty and has more speed then he is probably given credit for having but he did most of his big play damage with his arm and good decision making.

Thorpe was one of the fastest if not the fastest guy on the field most games.

I heard this a lot, but it seems to me everytime Thorpe appeared to have a lot of field in front of him, some defensive player would catch him or force him out of bounds. I was always expecting to see his explosive speed, but never saw it. Just my opinion.

I may be dead wrong, but I just never saw convincing evidence of Thorpe's speed. Plays where Landers broke into open field resulted into longer gains. I always expected Thorpe to outrun the defenders in similar situations but it rarely happened. Of course, there is always a difference in speed w/ shorts on vs full pads. Maybe Thorpe was a "show" guy, whereas Landers was a "go" guy

I think Thorpe had above average speed but what he really lacked was lateral quickness. He had a very hard time making people miss and always went down at the first sign of contact.

RE: 2017 FB Roster Notes
Landers was listed at 6'1"/220 but he ran like he was 250. Often just lowered the boom on people, breaking tackles and plowing ahead for YAC, something you didn't see JT or VL (and frankly no othrr JMu qb I have seen) do. Landers was at least as good as Thorpe in the open field, not as good as Lee. Had a good enough arm & accuracy & very good decision making.

JT was listed at 6'1"/225 and ran like he was 180-200. Good in open field but got brought down too easily by arm tackles. Never lowered the boom on anyone or got YAC like Landers. Obviously had the arm but accuracy & decison making left a lot to be desired.

VL was also listed at 6'1"/225 but also seemed to run like someome under 200. He seemed a step faster & quicker than JT and even better in the open field but not much better in traffic. Sometime brought down by arm tackles. Didn't get near the YAC Landers did and never rembered VL trucking anyone like Landers. Course very good arm, accuracy, & decision making. Was the best combo of passing & open field running in JMU history. Put up insane #s.

Good analysis, though from my perspective, I would upgrade Landers from your "good" to my "very good" on decision making.

Thorpe's last game was at Richmond and Ricmond moved lots of guys into the box and Thorpe still couldn't pass. We left around the beginning of the 4th quarter. JMU switched quarterbacks and almost came back.

This. I don't Think Gage is coming to JMU to sit for 3 seasons. Either Cole or Gage will be disappointed in 2018 and likely transfers.

We've had A LOT of hyped HS QBs come in over the last decade+, and the majority haven't even panned out at QB (either moved to another positions and/or left the team after a season or 2). We have no idea whether or not there will be much of a QB battle in 2018.

We need to let the young quarterbacks play sooner and more in the blow out games. Save Schor for the payoffs. We can not have him get injured.

Doing well, hopefully - I saw where he was working as a fire/emt guy here in the Richmond area not long ago - a nice career if you enjoy that type of work.

Landers spoiled MM and JMU fans. The dude could always find a crease a pick up an extra two+ yards after contact. Third and twos were automatic.

Yeah, that's definitely true his senior year. It wasn't true with a 4th and 1 on our own 31 in Boone in his junior year. Ugh!!

Marcell Johnson is no longer on the roster and Markus James (Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning) has been removed from the coaches list.

It looks like Markus James moved to South Carolina State to become the Associate Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. He will be working with Football, Tennis, Men's Basketball, Volleyball and Softball.

I'm drawing a conclusion from past posts on this message board.
Two players are no longer on the roster all of a sudden. Connor Mitch and Marcell Johnson.

Do we really know that Mitch was one of the tested and suspended guys? Remember, he would not have been on travelling rosters for NDSU or Youngstown anyway due to roster size limitations.
