Kent State @ Miami
Here is a look at the MAC standings heading into Saturday's matchup at Miami:

1) Akron 9-0
2) Ball State 6-3
T3) Ohio, Eastern Michigan & NIU 5-4

T6) Kent State, Buffalo, Central Michigan & Toledo 4-5
T10) Bowling Green & Western Michigan 3-6
12) Miami 2-7

The Golden Flashes have their backs against the wall when it comes to earning a top 4 seed in the MAC Tournament. Two games remain against Akron as do road games with Toledo, Buffalo and BG.

The good news is that Kent can make up some ground tomorrow against the lowly RedHawks. Miami has lost 7 of their last 8 games. Their leading scorer is Michael Weathers. The 6'2 freshman guard averages about 17 points per game. With the help of his 6'5 brother Marcus, who averages 9 points and 5.5 rebounds per night there is some hope for the future on Oxford. KSU will also have to deal with 6'9 junior Logan McClane who averages 12 points and 6 rebounds for the Hawks.

I don't know about this one. I don't think Miami has the talent that Kent State has but I am not sold that the Flashes can consistently go on the road and win ball games. They are going to need to, though.

Ball State got spanked on their home floor by Buffalo last night. This is some conference that we follow.

Winning on the road is never easy, but man, the Flashes know how to make sure we stick around to the end.

Seniors again turning over at the end of the game. And Jay Walker still thinks that giving the ball up means letting the defense trap him and turning over. They do not have respect for team BB. Thankful we won, just ugly.

Agree but it least for the second time we pulled out a close game. Earlier in the season I'm pretty sure today would have been a L.

Blasphemy. LOL.

Nice win though. 2 in a row on the road. Maybe the Flashes want into the dog fight for a top seed.

Akron knows how to win close games. That's about the only thing that sets them apart from the rest of the MAC. It's not like they're blowing teams out. OU is actually first in the MAC on kenpom. Not surprisingly no one is in the top 100. Cleveland will be wide open next month.

Akron will be the weakest MAC champion in 20+ years. But it's better than finishing behind the weakest MAC champion in 20+ years.

RE: Kent State @ Miami
This team has talent, they just need to play hard and focused basketball for all 40 minutes, and run the offense efficiently to get higher % shots.

I missed a few minutes of the game, but was able to watch the majority of it. A road win in Millett Hall is always a good win, no matter the year.

A few stats that stood out to me in looking at the box score:
Jaylin Walker - 2 of 9 from 3pt range
Jimmy Hall - 12 rebounds, 5 turnovers
Team - 12 of 23 from the free throw line
Jalen Avery - 0 turnovers in 29 minutes, very efficient shooting
Adonis De La Rosa - 4 fouls in 14 minutes
KSU team defense held Miami to 37.7% shooting from the field and forced 19 turnovers

Interesting stats. Peterson didn't score...didn't rebound....but had 3 steals.

RE: Kent State @ Miami
Perimeter shot selection has been an issue most of the year. I would like to see us work to get Edwin and Avery more open threes. Percentage wise they're our best three point shooters and I think a big part of this is those two seldom force a bad three.

Walker's shot more than twice as many threes as the next guy (Edwin) and isn't hitting a great percentage (33.1% this year 33.3% last year). I think he's a better three point shooter than Edwin or Avery, but he needs to improve his shot selection or he'll remain a high volume low percentage shooter.

I will add, I get a little sad seeing DeBerry's numbers when I'm looking at out perimeter shooting efficiency. If he could've found 15-20 minutes a night he could've been a real difference maker. I think he was far and away our best shooter.

One other comment on the perimeter shot selections. Currently we're 201st in three pointers made and 286th in three point percentage. But we're 124th in threes attempted.

You know, lately, the majority of our offers within the last month or so have been for PG's. Does the coaching staff have no confidence in an Avery and Johnson combo for next year, or are they hoping one of them "bites" and we get lucky? I would think all of our attention would go to SG's. I feel we need a lights out shooter to complement this bunch. If we popped 1 or 2 more three's in a lot of the close games we lost this year, we could be looking at a much different record. I'm holding out hope for David Collins. I like him a lot.

I made the 3:20 drive yesterday to watch the game, help end the drudgery at Millett Hall, and we should have put that team away as quick as Ohio put us away a couple of weeks ago. I'm happy, we won, but now is the time to seize control of the MAC.
