Why the 16th best league > 9th best league
A miss-leading title but relevant to BBallers here. The MBB MAC is the 14th-16th best conference so far this season with a punchers chance at an At-Large if Akron stays amazing. The WBB MAC is the 8th-10th best conference so far will not have a shot at At-Larges because there is TOO MUCH parody in the conference.
RPI:
62 Ohio
72 UB
83 CMU
86 NIU
92 Toledo
112 Kent State
128 Ball state
Anyways... keep it up lady's! It's still an odd thing to think about. It's not the league that propels at Large talks...it's the teams.

The CI Mid Major top 25 does not reflect SOS or any kind of relevant comparisons IMO... it's all coaches voting (Ohio's HC being the only one on the panel). It's still fun to look at.
Ohio comes in at 5th, with 5 MAC teams just outside of the top 25.

Guess NIU women will have to keep flying under the radar.
Will need to win the conference & tourney hopefully to make a statement on the national level. Already beat Ohio at home. The Akron loss haunts.
Lot of games left to be played.
IMO the league is better than what the national opinion is. Some very good players and some outstanding coaches.

The teams that did the best during the non-conference part of the schedule, Ohio and Buffalo, have no excelled during the conference season. If Buffalo were 8-1 in the conference instead of NIU being 8-1, then Buffalo would be talking at-large. (Although in the end, as we've seen year after year, the NCAA finds a way to make the MAC a one-bid league.)
Yes, I agree that at-large for a mid-major has more to do with the team than with the league. But it's also true that a generally sound league, like the MAC is this year on the women's side, will allow a successful team to keep a strong RPI ranking as it progresses through the conference schedule. When Toledo finished with three losses a few years ago and got overlooked, our RPI dropped during the course of the conference season even though we only lost one game (plus one in the tournament).

RE: Why the 16th best league > 9th best league
One other thing that I hate about the selection is "scheduling better teams." The power conference teams have good SOS' because of their league, not because of scheduling tough (in some cases). Toledo scheduled 5 teams? Who made the tourney last season. 4 A-10 squads, and beat all of those... it's not our fault that Dayton, Rhode Island, and St Boneventure are all down. We still scheduled tough... how they fair from year to year isnt our problem. We'll get punished for losing to UCLA by 2 on a neutral court, because its not a win. The committee would rather have us played a Horizon league team and win. Its only wins and overall schedule that matters when its not a level playing field. Teams like Ohio State and Michigan have told us, and publically stated they dont want any piece of scheduling us because its dangerous. We actually have a home court advantage and its scary the big boys and girls.

Its true... if the league was weaker the top 2 teams could seperate themselves and have gaudy win totals. LIKE Akron is doing on the mens side.

You must have missed his joke. Google parody. The word you meant parity.

This certainly is a down year for the conference. Ive always argued for at larges from the MAC, but admittedly this year is probably hard to make that case

There is too much parody when it comes to ladies putting on some MACtion (in the non-sports sense).
