Three Memphis assistants contacted by SEC schools, plan to stay
Quote:Three Memphis Tiger assistants were contacted by SEC schools this offseason, but plan to stay on head coach Mike Norvell's staff this upcoming season, according to a source.
Offensive line coach and run game coordinator Ryan Silverfield has heard from the Florida Gators about a possible position there. There has been some turnover in Gainesville, but Silverfield will remain in Memphis.
Losing Silverfield would have been a blow to Memphis moving there influence throughout the state of Tennessee. He was central to bringing in four-star offensive lineman Obinna Eze and three-star TJ Carter, and improved Memphis' offensive line throughout the season. The former NFL assistant was ranked in the top five of the American Athletic Conference recruiting rankings last recruiting cycle.
Wide receiver coach David Johnson has been central to the Tigers recruiting the state of Louisiana. That is one of the reasons LSU contacted him about an opening on head coach Ed Orgeron's staff. His receiving corps is going to be stacked with talent next season, Anthony Miller will be a senior and Da'Monte Coxie will be playing his first season at Memphis.
The Tigers only brought in one Louisiana prospect in the class of 2017, but they brought in five for their class of 2016. That included Josh Perry, Johnathan Wilson and John "Pop" Williams.
Last, but not least is defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson who was contacted by Texas A&M about a secondary coaching position there. He will be returning to coach three-star junior college corner backs Tito Windham and Marcus Green, who he recruited.
Memphis' secondary was much better under the tutelage of Woodson and defensive coordinator Marcus Ball. Windham and Green will be joined by young talent like Sanchez Blake and redshirt freshman Tyrez Lindsey.

All three are planning to return to coach at the University of Memphis next season. It's not surprising that these three were contacted about new jobs. Norvell put together a deep and talented staff -- current Notre Dame offensive coordinator Chip Long wasn't the only up and comer on this staff.
