There apparently was a bust-up between the Australian PM and Trump

I don't blame either side.

Australia is wondering if the USA understands what an agreement between allies actually is.

Trump is probably sitting there looking at what was an AWFUL deal and thinking "wow, I got set up with this?"

As a non-Trump fan, I'm actually going to point the finger at Obama. He poisoned the pot in the final year of his term by signing a number of deals with current US allies that would absolutely destroy the credibility of the next President.

Part of why Trump is failing abroad is because the table was set that way. I don't think Trump wanted to get angry at an Anglophone country.

My guess is that we'll attempt to alter the deal so that we provide something we can afford to. Trump should not have gone to Twitter on this. It's bad PR.

Sounds like Obama's 2nd worst deal after the Iranian one.

It wasn't as much as a bust up as it was a disagreement. On CNN this morning they said Trump would honor the deal but it would be through his vetting process.

Australia is one of the willing who sent troops into Iraq and Afghanistan to fight against terror. They have troops in Iraq right now helping the Iraqi military fighting ISIS. If we get their people mad at us? Australia could pull out, and we could be a country by ourselves with nobody backing us at all in case we get raided by Russia, China or the radicals terrorist groups.

That is true. Reportedly however, Trump also told The PM that his call to Putin was better.

Also, there are some reports that Trump spent time bragging about how many electoral votes he got in the United States.

Not sure if this is true but it is certainly par for the course. 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

Australia needs us a lot more than we need them. China is looming large over their foreign policy concerns and they are not prepared to deal with them without us backing them up. There is no need for us to agree or continue bad deals that favor them or any other country.

I guess the obvious question is why won't Australia let them in?
I mean they obviously tried to get to Australia, or Australia relocated them there. They've been stranded on these islands. Does Australia find them too dangerous? Something very weird about this situation. I'd be vetting the hell out of them.

For decades I've argued that if we hadn't fought in Vietnam, we'd have ended up fighting Communist insurgents in Malaysia or Australia.

Geopolitical interests make Australia an ideal ally if you're worried about China. It's not like we haven't gotten anything from the friendship.

Every country on earth pretty much "needs us more than we need them" but that doesn't mean we need to be douche's to our allies just because of that fact. Handling foreign relations the same way you handle them with Rosie O'Donnell is not a good idea.

Perhaps but that is no reason to strain relations with them. It's just not cricket.

That's what bullies do. You don't throw your weight around just because you are the toughest kid in the playground.

Man, I can't believe how you guys can defend this infantile behavior.

RE: There apparently was a bust-up between the Australian PM and Trump
This was a crap deal and part of Obama's community organizer, screw America agenda on his way out the door. Someone asked why Australia didn't take them. Well, it's because they couldn't clear them, i.e. they couldn't be properly vetted. That's why they are still being retained. I was floored when I first heard about this. Obama was willing to take those that could not be vetted. Why would he do that?
