I think the league will be better next year. Lots of young players and young coaches ironing out the wrinkles this season.

Alabama is restocking, thankfully, but I think we'll have a hard time winning the conference again after losing so many starters on Defense.

We should merge, then add Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas and redraw 4 eight school divisions:

Boston College, Kentucky, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, N.C. State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest

Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, Mississippi State

Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M

Now I ask you, "What's wrong with that setup?

Lots of new coaches in the east were restocking or rebuilding last year. Let's see if there is more consistent play from the teams this year.

Taking 3 of 4 from the annual end of season in state rivalry games against the ACC would be a major step in the right direction. Perception is frequently greater than reality.

Perhaps, but Atlanta would be a great compromise. I don't think there are too many who would love to hang onto Birmingham. But seriously, Nashville would become more of a center point in that kind of conference.

All ESPN schools except Oklahoma.
You might be looking at Texas Tech instead of the Sooners JR, if ESPN gets picky, Fox would love to put Nebraska and Oklahoma back together again.

Tech works fine too. If we move to something like this then you don't have to have a brand like Oklahoma to make that division work.

Then the B1G & Pac could merge & add Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, BYU, Iowa State, Kansas State & Houston.

UCLA, USC, Stanford, Cal, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, BYU

Oregon, Washington, Oregon State, Washington State, Colorado, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State

Wisconsin, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Illinois, Northwestern, Houston

Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Indiana, Purdue, Maryland, Rutgers

(As long as we're talking about mergers.)

Regardless of the placement of Oklahoma I would think that something like this is exactly what they would do.

2 conferences of 4 divisions of 8 schools. The two conference champs meet for the national championship.

Only I would say it would look something like this:

Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers

Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Wisconsin

California, Cal Los Angeles, Oregon, Oregon State, Southern Cal, Stanford, Washington, Washington State

Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon State, Rice, T.C.U., Texas Tech, Utah

RE: SEC Does Well on Signing Day
This mega deal is a way to make the SEC palatable to Kansas joining the SEC.

Consider that everyone wants to be contiguous.
ESPN owns Kansas (or at least has long term influence over Kansas)
FOX has the same relationship with Oklahoma.
Kansas could be contiguous with the SEC.
Oklahoma can not be contiguous with the B1G without either Kansas or Missouri (or annexing Colorado).
Regardless of the recent past Kansas /Missouri needs to be a pair (just like Texas/Texas A&M).
Would the B1G/FOX give up claim to Oklahoma if they could get ESPN to give up Missouri AND Kansas? Maybe IF Texas would join the SEC with Oklahoma.
So here we sit.
What it does show is ESPN's brilliance in having the SEC get Missouri which has completely stymied the B1G.

This mega 32 team conference with four 8 team divisions may be the perfect workaround to break the stalemate PLUS keep Kansas and Missouri for ESPN AND add Texas (and maybe to a lesser extent Oklahoma).......quite a coup if they can pull it off.

BTW, I would prefer a more traditional split JR:

Boston College, Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Miami.

UVa, Carolina, Dook, Wake Forest, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State and NCSU.

South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Mississippi State.

Ole Miss, Missouri, Arkansas, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Kansas

I obviously peruse sites like this too much because last night I had a dream that the SEC merged with the PAC 12. Oh well, time to feed the addiction...

Well, it might happen if our two conferences acquire Delta.

I would like this division, having UK, ND, Miami, Pitt & VT. The basketball in this conference would be outstanding as well, adding Kansas, UK, Florida & the others to the ACC brands! The B1G/PAC conference couldn't match it, except for possibly hockey.

Eventually we will return to a more regional schedule. That division could stand toe-to-toe with anybody.
