An Iraq war contractor who claimed President Trump’s controversial travel ban caused his mother's death lied about the circumstance.

Imam Husham Al-Hussainy, head of the Karbalaa Islamic Educational Center in Dearborn, Mich. told WJBK-TV that Mike Hager's mother died five days before Trump issued the executive order.

He confirmed Hager's 75-year-old mother had been treated in Detroit, where she lived, for kidney disease before traveling to Iraq to visit family.

The Daily News has reached out to Hager for comment.

I was wondering about that. Gave him the benefit of doubt.

it really didn't make sense to me when first I heard it. granted stress can trigger death as we saw with debbie reynolds but it seemed like a stretch.

5 out of 7 isn't bad. You are almost there.

My question is why didn't the New York Daily News validate the story before they ran with it in the first place? It used to be that journalists were required to confirm information before turning a story in and you risked being fired if you allowed the paper to print a story that hadn't been adequately sourced. I guess all media would rather be TMZ now than accurately report the news.
