I have seen absolutely nothing at all in 20+ games this season that makes me think next year losing our two best defenders and replacing them with a freshman and no one is going to make us an NCAA tourney team.
Not a single solitary shred of logic supports this conclusion.
I think it's the old addition through subtraction theory. That and the guys who are remaining, AKA our fabulous sophomores, will all be more experienced and consistent.

PG: Caver
SG: Hueitt/Godwin/Green
3: BJ/Talley
4: ?
5: Porter
No specific order but that is a ton of talent.
Sweet 16 favorite might be a stretch but I certainly see that year as a possible deep tournament team.
So what you are both saying is ODU will have the best basketball team we have ever put on the court next year....Interesting!!!
I'm saying when Caver, BJ, Talley, and Porter are Seniors we'll have the best team we've ever had. ESPECIALLY, if we can land a stud PF soon. Those four guys are already ahead of almost every ODU great at their respective positions in their Sophomore year.
I like it. T-Mac is not backing down.
Whenever anyone makes a prediction and the logic is based, even partially, on using the word IF, I immediately dismiss it.

They are loaded and firing on all cylinders. If we play our game and they play theirs they win.
I think we either need someone else to knock them off or just hope we catch them on an off night.
It's possible but not likely and that's if no one else knocks us off first.
We've always struggled in Birmingham.
Did we struggle in Birmingham last year when as the #5 seed we won our first three games by an average margin of close to 20 then lost to MTSU by a bucket in the finals?
I don't expect you to agree.
MTSU is the best team in the league but we have a chance to win it just like about 5 other teams. MT, UAB, LT, MU, surprisingly UTEP, and ODU.

Aside from the fact that arguably our best three players are sophomores.

RE: BJ Stith
so now we are losing our "best two defenders," haha. This coming from the same person that ******* about not being able to shoot or put the ball in the basket. So which one is it? You going to argue that our most talented players are baker and Taylor? I guess whatever supports your argument about not liking anything to do w ODU hoops. U got a serious agenda on these message boards man. Make sure u double check that RPI again before u go to sleep.

RE: BJ Stith
In 2007-08 our RPI was 124
In 2008-09 our RPI was 81
In 2009-10 our RPI was 28
In 2010-11 our RPI was 23
That class was Hassell, Finney, James, and Carter. Granted, they were also propped up by Gerald Lee and Kent Bazemore.
I'd argue that at the same stage in their respective careers, Talley, Caver, Stith, and Porter have already shown similar progress.
Ben Finney Minutes 29.2 Points 9.9 Rebounds 6.0 Assists 2.1 Steals 1.7 Blocks 0.2 FG% .446 FT% .583 3pt% .318
Keyon Carter Minutes 22.1 Points 7.9 Rebounds 4.6 Assists 0.9 Steals 0.6 Blocks 0.7 FG% .438 FT% .712 3pt% .386
Frank Hassell Minutes 18.9 Points 7.5 Rebounds 5.3 Assists 0.7 Steals 0.6 Blocks 0.9 FG% .524 FT% .639 3pt% .000
Darius James Minutes 31.7 Points 6.9 Rebounds 2.4 Assists 4.5 Steals 0.9 Blocks 0.0 FG% .335 FT% .661 3pt% .322
Ahmad Caver Minutes 34.8 Points 13.0 Rebounds 3.6 Assists 4.5 Steals 1.1 Blocks 0.2 FG% .340 FT% .646 3pt% .351
Zoran Talley Minutes 25.4 Points 12.8 Rebounds 3.9 Assists 2.1 Steals 0.4 Blocks 0.2 FG% .465 FT% .583 3pt% .111
B.J. Stith 22 Minutes 23.5 Points 10.0 Rebounds 4.0 Assists 0.7 Steals 0.6 Blocks 0.2 FG% .364 FT% .781 3pt% .264
Trey Porter Minutes 14.7 Points 5.9 Rebounds 4.8 Assists 0.4 Steals 0.3 Blocks 1.6 FG% .460 FT% .587 3pt% .000
The difference between the two groups is that this year's sophomores are forced to grow up WAY quicker and carry the team now. Hassell, Finney, James, and Carter were carried by Gerald Lee until their Senior year. One could postulate that two more seasons of being "the man" will pay dividends as this group grows older together.

This is somehow worse than homecourt disadvantage.....

They have a long ways to go. Have you seen who we've lost to recently?

I'd bother to explain to you how most of the caa stats were put up against far superior competition and our stats in cusa are against AWFUL basketball teams but really, what's the point?
Anyone who thinks this is going to be a sweet 16 team in 2 years is too delusional to have a reasonable discussion with.

RE: BJ Stith
Alex Loughton had a 45 point game as a sophomore. Who on our current team do you see pulling that off? Hell, we're fortunate if we can hit 45 as a team.
