This will certainly matter for future recruiting, or whether we take any senior transfers in the next few years.

20/25 for 2017 not counting Taylor ,Boler, or Griffin

43/45 from 2016

1 former baseball player

12 returnees from 2014 team

76/85

9 open schollies plus 5 seniors

(maybe Cam Taylor shows up for 77)

That is helpful, but I was thinking more of Seniors/Juniors/Sophomores/Freshmen. The UAB website does not list their class either on the team roster, or on the individual player profiles. I know that for some players it's hard to tell their eligilibity class, because of the waiver we got from the NCAA that allows for the extra years to not count against years of eligibility during the break.

My fear is that we will have 40 or more juniors (from all the juco players and transfers) and 30 freshmen, from two classes of high school players. That would leave us some big holes to have to fill two years from now, and four years from now.

I know the coaches have that figured out, and I am sure they are trying to do their best to balance the classes, but the special circumstances of #TheReturn will certainly make that difficult.

I've been trying to keep up with it but it has been a difficult task. My estimates have us around:

20 freshman - including blue shirt recruits
18 sophomores
37 juniors
5 seniors

Just heard Coach Clark on JOX. Said we had a couple of more defensive lineman that are committed to us that no one knows about?
Anyone know?

Just a thought, but if no one knows about it then it might mean no one knows about it.

I guess I shouldn't have posed the question. I assumed that we have people in the know who might could speculate as to whom the players might be. I now know better not to ask in the future.

I don't follow recruiting closely...but I am enjoying being surrounded by folks that are upset about losing out on Thomas Johnston

Take the comment by him to mean that the few coaches know & nobody else needs to know until after the fact.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering about. I know there will inevitably be some additions and changes, and certainly some attrition, but as the numbers currently stand that's going to present a challenge in recruiting next year and the next.

Assuming for the sake of argument, that those 80 players are on scholarship (and if we sign a few more non-seniors this year), that would leave us with only 5-10 schollies to give out next year (to stay at 85). But then the next year, we would have to replace nearly half the scholarship players at one time, if those 37 juniors are then graduating seniors.

I am not suggesting that Coach Clark is not on top of this, and I am sure he has a plan. But re-starting the program basically from scratch, even with the extra year, makes balancing the classes nearly impossible for the first few years.

Listening to Clark closely, some of those juniors are about to graduate.

Which means they may decide not to return.

Yeah and we need to remember this. I feel like Clark has done a great job with the classes this whole time off.
