Hunter Thomas - http://www.etsubucs.com/football/2017-si...er-thomas/

Ok, I admit I was a bit baffled by this one. A RB out of a district not known for producing skill position D-1 athletes. Linemen yes, kickers – yes, skill – not really. His listed 40y dash time of 4.38 really caught my eye; hence, I’ll admit I started to doubt it. But, when I watched the tape, I was impressed with the speed displayed. Watching this kid reminds you of watching old-school highlight reels, where one person looks fast, or the others just look out of place. Perhaps it was the caliber of the opponent’s talent displayed on the film (hard to get a sense of the person you are actually trying to evaluate). Still, I had to look at his Track and Field times. His 6.93 55y does not equate to 4.38 speed, nor does his 2016 time of 12.02 in the 100m. In fact, that is just flat out slow. But there he is, running away from people left and right. I’m perplexed. The coaches said he attended some of their camps, so they had straight line visibility to his talents first hand. He’s not flashy, he’s not a battering ram, he’s just good.

Karon Delince: http://www.etsubucs.com/football/2017-si...n-delince/

Here is your coverage corner. Quick to the ball. Flips his hips nicely/naturally. Diagnoses plays very well – seems to be on the same page as the offence. This is usually the result of someone who studies film and translates it to the field – a coach’s dream. He is listed at 5’9, 167 but that may be stretching it a bit. He is listed at running a 4.32 40y, but based on his Alabama Track and Field numbers, I would say he defiantly runs sub 4.4; perhaps not a 4.32, but somewhere in the 4.38 range. Either way he is still lightning fast. May have a harder time playing against taller receivers (the +6’2 receivers usually found in the SoCon), but his speed will make up for a missed step or two. I grade him out very well. Great find.

Tremond Shorts - http://www.etsubucs.com/football/2017-si...nd-shorts/

A man amounts boys. At 6’4, 300 Tremond still has room to grow; thus, coach Johnson will do doubt help add considerable strength to this young man. Bends knees well for kid this size. Stays on blocks and can get to the 2nd level. A road grader with long arms. Projected T, but I didn’t see a lot of footwork to prove pass protection from the T position; however, this could be the result of his team’s offensive scheme (run and short pass).

Jibrell Jackson - http://www.etsubucs.com/football/2017-si...l-jackson/

Not really sure where the staff is going with this one. Big downhill runner. Blocking FB that will pick up the tough short yards. Old-school FB who can block in pass protection. At only 5’10, he doesn’t have the height needed to be an effective pass catching TE. May be used in short yardage situations and perhaps double TE sets.

Thomas Henderson - http://www.etsubucs.com/football/2017-si...henderson/

listed as a DB and WR, there is no doubt he excels on defense more so than offence. Tracks the ball down field well. Tall and can get up in the air to defend taller receivers. Strong hitter that loves contact. Plays through the receiver/running back.

Miles Manigault - http://www.etsubucs.com/football/2017-si...manigault/

Miles plays with a constant motor. At 6’2, 260 he is stronger than what you expect out of 260. Powerful to absorb double teams, explosive to the ball. Miles will get better and better. Give him a year in the weight room and you are probably looking at 275 DT/DE.

Drae Butts = http://www.etsubucs.com/football/2017-si...rae-butts/

The first thing that jumps out to you is his ability to go up and get the ball. He was a high jumper in high school; thus it shows in is ability to go vertical and challenge for the ball. Some of his big plays came as a result of blown coverage, but that is to be expected in HS ball. Drea shows very good speed and the ability to add YAC. Why he was not a sprinter in HS makes you wonder. At 5”11 155lbs, the thing that concerns me is he has a tendency to always leave the ground when it is not required. This can be exploited at the college, but for now, Drea looks to be a solid receiver.

Tyrique Sandusky - http://www.etsubucs.com/football/2017-si...-sandusky/

Tyique offers a very strong arm. His height may come into play down the road as the OL appears to be getting bigger and taller. Makes good decisions and accurate throws (on the rope), steps into the throw. Not super-fast, but elusive. Can make all the throws at the HS level. Should challenge for playing time a year or two down the road.

Chris Ross - http://www.etsubucs.com/football/2017-si...hris-ross/

At 6’1, 200 lbs, Ross looks like he made a living coming off the edge as a pass rusher. There is no questioning his speed and athleticism, as he is all over the field. He can rush the passer with speed, but is light in the pegs, too light to set the edge at this point, but I’m sure he will graduate at +230. He can also drop and cover very well. Situational player perhaps, or maybe he will be converted to a box safety – a position I think will suit him perfectly.

Keilend Clayton - http://www.etsubucs.com/football/2017-si...d-clayton/

This was a very good surprise; talk about versatility. Keilend can play every position on the DL. He can play the 0, 1, 3 and 5 technique - pretty respectable for a kid who is 6’2, 275. Shows a better than good balance of size and power. Not super fast, but quick off the ball. He uses his hands just about as good as any high school lineman. Will no doubt continue to get better under collegiate coaching.

Drew Johnson - http://www.etsubucs.com/football/2017-si...w-johnson/

Drew may have been a bit of a reach due to all the other QBs on the team. His mechanics appear to be all over the place. He has a tendency to throw off the back foot (more of a gunslinger). Does see the entire field and drops a nice ball with touch. Arm strength looks suspect. I’m sure coach O’Cain will do wonders with this young man.

With this, who do you think will be redshirting or leaving the program?

After reviewing the film, track data, etc. it is my opinion that Warren is a much better receiver than Butts. I know the coaching staff is high an the later, but Kashif appears to be a more polished and natural receiver at this stage of their game.

Boy that is really hard to say. I understand that Wieger is a hometown kid, and perhaps he is happy with sticking around to be close to home. He may be content at waiting another year before making a decision, but I can’t see him waiting two years at a shot at the starting job. Most programs like to see you get two years playing QB. That leaves Sexton as the one who needs to make a decision. Does he challenge or transfer? He seems to have a stronger arm than Herink, but he did not benefit from the starters that Herick did. I think this spring and summer will shake a lot of players up to where you may see a couple changes at WR, RB, CB and OL more so than the other positions.
