He'd still have to be confirmed at some point to become permanent. Recess appointments can only last so long. I believe it's to the end of the current congress, but I don't know for sure.

Yes he could... but if they were to do that, and you allow filibusters, every senator is allowed 2 speeches that they can run with as long as they are able.

Which means if you avoided the "reid option" if it comes to it, you're looking at what I would assume is about 40 Democratic senators who'd run with it...and just assuming each one could go one day..

You're looking at 80 days give or take without a completed nomination.. which puts you over the April cases... (which I heard, is what Schumer was aiming for.. no nomination to get through until after the April docket is completed)
