DeWayne Russsell to sit against Bethesda
DeWayne showed up to today's game against Bethesda in street clothes with his shooting hand wrapped. Both DeWayne and Coach Majerle said that DeWayne would try to as long as he was good to go. It is likely that DeWayne is sitting due to the level of the opponent, but it could mean that he could miss extended time.

Glad he sat. Wish JB would have been rested a little more, too, though it sounds like he got a good little pre-game pep talk from Mr. Colangelo.

My worry is that it may just go beyond tonight because this is the first time that I have seen it wrapped

If it is the type of injury I suspect, it heals best when the hand is immobilized. If he isn't playing, might as well wrap it.

Dan said Weezy should be ready for Bakersfield Saturday. Honestly, if he needs more rest, I'd rather him take off CSUB and UTRGV, return for NMSU. Shaq had a nice game last night. I know it was Bethesda, but it was the best I have seen him play since Dewayne returned game 3. 4-7 8 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. The best stat of the night 0... 0 Turnovers.

Let me tell you that the Bakersfield players are going to be gunning for that hand. They play rough and dirty. However, if any game you will need Russell it's CSUB. They are good. Their record does not reflect how good they are. NMSU was very fortunate to pull out a victory at home vs. the Runners.

I don't know that the competitor in Russell will let him sit another game, though I would be fine if he did. Realistically, Lopes aren't playing for anything meaningful right now, other than 2017-18. I honestly feel like tne more young guys like Carr, Frayer, Aidoo, & Nudo play right now, the better. However, I doubt that is how it goes.

Yeah, I'm with you. I could care less about this season as far as "winning the WAC". However, I realize that this is DeWayne's final season so he will push to play I am sure.

Shaq ain't that young. He transferred in as a junior from his JUCO.

Young was probably the wrong word. How about "less experienced". I have wondered if some, though not all, of the struggles we've seen Shaq have are because he hasn't adjusted to the size/speed/length of D1 players. I am thinking about the turnovers, especially.

I would especially love to see him get the experience now, when it doesn't really matter. If we learn he won't be the guy that can lead this team from the point next year, it gives the staff time to prepare another player on the roster now or look for grad transfer options.
