I NEVER saw what you did in Williams, he seemed like a typical freshman, showed some flashes but usually seemed timid and folded to pressure like a cheap suit.

Before you start talking about this drive or that drive or some pass, I mean timid when challenged. I would not want to rely on him to bring the ball up the court against a press.

Well, we obviously can't compare notes or comments without having examples in front of us to view, so this is moot for now.

UT-C up 16 at the half. Saviors and Seahawks nip-and-tuck all thru the second half.

Finally, the best thing about this game is VMI was of the 3 teams you could sleepwalk through a half and still win.

Second half of Chatt/UNCG just starting on espn3.

edit: ...but it's pretty ragged. Poor crowd; UT-C up 21....

further edit: Now 26-pt. game. Chatt 6/10 from 3; UNCG 1/8.

Furman survived Mercer.

Down two with length of floor, Hoffmann drew up a brilliant play. Inbounder has freedom to run and Furman naturally puts a big face up on him to disrupt the Hail Mary pass. Mercer sneaks an additional player who plants and draws the obvious, no doubt charge, from the defender who is mirroring the inbounder. Referees ignore it. Should have put them at line shooting two to tie. Odds better to convert [/align]than a miracle play.

I'll play the role of Captain Obvious. When this team plays two halves of basketball, they are very good. Unfortunately that is rare, and on most night they win with talent playing only one half.

Here is Desonta's huge dunk in the first half. Good enough for number 8 on the Sportscenter top 10 (Pryor's out of bounds 3 vs UNCG was #1)

And I would say this team plays very good when they are hitting outside shots. That seems to open up all of the rest.

Here is Pryor's shot: SC Top Play

Chattanooga purged a lot of frustration, and UNCG was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Mocs led by as many as 40 points.

Yeah, I think so - unless you know something we don't.

Against Chatt, he came in, and made a quick TO (bad pass), and was immediately jerked. Then didn't play at all last night. Before that, played only 1 minute at Samford, and missed his only shot (which was a 3, if I remember correctly), and I think also had a quick TO, although I don't remember the specifics of that one. Game before that (Wofford), briefly got in for another minute, and quickly fouled Donovan Love, who I believe was shooting a 3. Was immediately relieved of duty. Don't even think it was a full minute. In the loss at Furman, had two TOs in 6 minutes - which is where/when his status went south in Forbes's eyes, imo.

Before that game, he had been getting some decent PT. He hasn't scored in a while, but he also hasn't had much chance to.
In the UNCG game, which again if I recall correctly, others thought they saw fear; I didn't. He was getting bumped hard by their bigger, physical guards. I *think* I saw him (slightly) limping at one point several games ago, but that's a dim, unreliable memory.

So it appears he's in a crisis of confidence. Whether that's *his* confidence, Forbes's, or both, I don't know. But certainly it appears the latter is true. If you have some additional info, like maybe an injury or something, then spill it.

If a player, especially a young one, 'loses their nerve', then it's not the easiest thing in the world to get it back. You sort of have to play your way back to it. And if you don't get minutes, then it's just not easy.

Forbes has tightened the lineup for now, at least. Only 9 guys got in the game last night - which I think is the fewest of the season. With the emergence of Long, and most especially his increasing ability (or at least increasing *clarity* of his ball-handling abilities), then Williams has simply become more expendable. Who, 10 games ago, would have said that Forbes would have confidence in letting Long play point at times, or run the point in the half court at times? Not me. Although I loved his court vision and dealing skills immediately, his handle at the point took awhile to become visible. At least that's my 54 cents-worth.

Same thing happened last year. If you remember last season both Bennie and Nigel Holley got a lot of PT at the start of the season. By the time the season ended they weren't getting any ( I don't think either guy even played in the postseason). I think it's sort of common that towards the end of a season eight or so guys typically set themselves apart from the rest of the team. I do hope Williams sticks with us though, I'm sure it can be discouraging to lose PT. I'm not sure if that's what happened to Julian Walters or not, but right now I think we could use him, especially his shooting, but maybe he just wasn't happy at ETSU and had nothing to do with PT.
