I'm pretty excited about softball. Went to the playoffs last year with my family and we had a GREAT time.

We return a legit national POY candidate in Megan Good. She was one of three college All American pitchers and she returns for her Junior year this year. Jailyn Ford was also outstanding and gave us perhaps the best 1-2 punch in pitching in the nation. That said, Megan was the better pitcher, and last year she played better in the playoff under pressure versus LSU.

In softball at times you play 4 times in 2 days. We will need a decent #2 to have a solid season. People will say - this "person" could be really good, but until we see it, we won't know. The odds are our #2 this year will be a step down from Jailyn Ford.

One good thing for us is one pitcher can carry a lot of the load in softball. For instance last year Megan actually pitched to 57% of the opposing batters. She started in 57% of the games. She played in 73% of the games. If she stay's healthy, that's a lot of "Good".

Jailyn started 23 of the remaining 24 games.

We only had 4 players pitch last year
Good - ERA - .94
Ford - ERA - 1.03
McCabe - ERA - 4.67
Tremain - ERA - 11.67

Obviously a HUGE drop off after Good and Ford.

Should be an exciting year. If Good were to get hurt - YIKES 03-weeping

Any word yet on who's expected to fill in at the #2 starter? McCabe?

Probably McCabe, but don't sleep on the F Alexander or the F Meenan (I'm sure she didn't come from Australia for nothing). However, things get interesting when Kathryn Sandercock gets here in 2 years. Only VA player on the junior Olympic team, already throwing low 70's as a junior in high school.

Isn't she too young to color her hair?

And more love from the Washington Post in this link to both Softball and the football team.

Thanks for posting those links.

From the first article...

More than a decade after their introduction in 2005, NCAA tournament super regionals will shift to a three-day format. Instead of playing a winner-take-all game the same day as the preceding game, teams will have an opportunity to rest before the season's most important game. Historically, about 40 percent of super regionals go three games.

At first glance, the change sets up a contrast with the game's overall move toward deeper pitching staffs. While pitching three days in a row at peak form is still a lot to ask, a team with one dominant pitcher is better positioned to rely on that arm. This could be good news for the likes of Florida Atlantic's Kylee Hanson, James Madison's Megan Good and Minnesota's Groenewegen. That twist aside, it should make for better softball on the biggest stage.

RE: 2017 Softball
I'm all in favor of pushing a super regional out over three days if for any reason then because the team that won the second game has all the momentum and the losing team is still reeling and hasn't been able to adjust. It will level the playing field a little more, hopefully.

ranked the 6th best player in the country. and only a junior.

if we can find that 2nd pitcher, this team will be absolutely loaded and a monster again for at least the next two seasons with Good as an ace.

Looking forward to this season. Good is an absolute monster, glad to see she's getting national recognition. If our #2 and #3 pitchers are even decent we should have another fantastic season. I started getting into the games toward the end of last season, they're pretty fast moving and watching a team like JMU is entertaining.

As far as I can tell, only our game against the host team Charleston Southern will be streamed online and all other games won't have any video available. It looks like JMU provided online audio only for the other games.

A year ago, I never would have imagined I'd be a softball fan, but I'm really excited about the season. I think we have a really good chance of surpassing last year's season.

Any word on a video option for the first game today vs Missouri? It looks like there's only going to be the school stream for our game against Charleston Southern at 2pm.
