DC: Developer plans luxury apartments for downtown DeKalb
This seems much more promising to actually happen rather than the other planned development 2 blocks down which has the issue of a lack of parking spots. Dekalb/NIU desperately needs developments like this.

http://www.daily-chronicle.com/2017/01/3...4h/?page=2

A summery is below but please give them a click for the numbers.

In a public notice printed in Monday’s edition of the Daily Chronicle, a rezoning petition was filed for the four buildings at 112 E. Lincoln and 118 E. Lincoln, which are part of the same building, 122 E. Lincoln, 124 E. Lincoln and 122 S. First.

The plan is to knock down all four and replace them with a four-story residential and commercial building. There is one building behind this one which is also part of the development. Curious as its on the other side of the alley so I wonder if they will redirect that traffic to the North since it was a rather dangerous exit as it is now.

This would be a great addition to downtown. An extra 50 apartments would be great for the Lincoln Ave. businesses as well. Maybe if this went up soon and rented out, it would give additional traction to the bigger project to the west. The 2 new residential projects and proposed hotel would transform the downtown core.

You must build the town to build the University. I am for this. Just look at the size of the towns/cities other MAC schools are linked with. i.e. Kalamazoo and Toledo.
I feel that this is what is hurting NIU, a larger town(bigger population) will lead to a higher likelihood of fan attendance at all sporting events which then will also lead to other things people would like to see in the university and athletics

I miss those $2 Schlitz's in the big red textured plastic glasses from Ottos. It's also the place I first saw Sister Machine Gun, and saw them from the first row right in front as well. Great memories.

I think this is great news.

Whatever happened to the proposed development by Shodeen of a Marriott hotel property and apartments just east of 1st on Lincoln Highway. This was proposed about a year ago at this time. Did it get shot down? There's just vacant land there now east of the Walgreens.

This is the last article I can find about that property...

To me it seemed that the City Council was dead set on their stance of the number of parking spots and the desire to first upgrade the actual down town area.

They got rid of the subway and self-serve car wash that was west of the Walgreens like 7-8 years ago to clear out that area for development and nothing has ever happened with all that property.

From my understanding these are all one contiguous structure. There is a parking lot behind the buildings, not an alley.

The subway was an ice cream shop just last Summer. It may be demolished now but it has not been 7-8 years.

The houses on that corner started to be demolished just about a year ago and was finished by the spring game.

Really the developer needs to figure out the parking spot situation to satisfy the Council so the property can have something useful built.

The 2 new buildings and Marriott hotel would be huge for the town. Fingers crossed.

Would love to stay at the Marriott and then head over to luxury suite #17 at 3M stadium for a Saturday AAC home game. Someday 03-wink
