Breakout player(s) for 2017
We all know that we are going to have to replace 3 starting receivers, a QB, and a couple of offensive linemen. Who do you think will be the breakout players of 2017?
Mine:
Mike Caliendo Guard
Keishawn Watson WR
Nathan Braster DE
Obbie Jackson CB
Brad Tanner S

Drake Spears was a monster on special teams all year. I don't know how he fits, but I think he breaks out.

Going to be tough for him to see time at LB with 3 senior starters playing there, unless one of them gets hurt. I like him though. Think he's got a bright future.

I like Curtis a lot athletically. Don't know a thing about his hands or ability to run routes. I did like what I saw from Keishawn Watson's hands even though he got thrown the ball like 3 times all season last year.

Let's hope so. I think he has all the attributes that Terrell had, but may be more physically gifted. Obviously, the downfall is experience.

Wassink has a bigger arm and is more athletic overall. Other than that...I guess we'll find out in spring ball.

And no senior WRs or star to throw to, as far as measuring him up to Terrell this past year and before.

Yes. Hopefully he's a better-than-Terrell-by-nature somewhat, and gets our passing game churning along.

Wassink
Caliendo
Ernsberger
Wassink, because we have a locked down run game, there is a way to combine that with a high percentage possession oriented passing thing. And if folks begin to load up on that, plenty of speed to go over the top, and a big arm to do that. Pass protection will be there, plus the guy can run besides.
Caliendo seems to be next guy up. We've got such big pool of talent, we should be able to just step up and not lose much, and keep doing that for several years.
Ernsberger, the best is yet to come.

Who's got the best chance to start at qb this year? Curious to see how flacco does throwing the ball. Should be good competition who ever wins.

You have to think it's going to be Wassink unless Flacco shows us something new, or if the coaching staff is implementing a completely new offensive system.

Agreed. If Flacco wins the job I will be surprised. Judging by Indiana's offense, there is likely to be a package for Flacco when we get into the Red zone unless they feel that Wassink can handle everything.

Biggest opportunity to break out will be on offense. QB and WR specifically with Terrell and Davis both gone. I look for Wassink and Eskridge to break out. Eskridge showed early on in the season what he can do and I liked what I saw. More of a Braverman type, will be interesting to see which one of the WR's steps up into the Davis role.

Gotta be Josh Grant! When your leading scorer leaves someone has to pick up those points next season. It's a position that can't be done by committee as is WR.

Well, I don't know if he could be considered a "breakout" player when he's the only scholarship kicker on the roster.

Was Butch a breakout player when he went from Kicking in OK high school games to 5for5 in the conference championship?

I would consider 2016 breakout players to be: Juriga, Spillane, and Justin Ferguson

Hopefully Watson, Bellamy (slot WR) and Eskridge. That would mean our 'O' is a dual-threat...

What separated Terrell from other college QB's was his fanatical focus on not making mistakes. Not throwing interceptions or fumbling the ball. Taking sacks rather than throwing up desperation balls.
If you take a good QB and eliminate the majority of his mistakes, you make a great QB. It's that simple.
As simple as it is, most QB's lack that focus. Does Wassink have that same discipline? We'll see.
