RE: POY
I doubt Justin Wright-Foreman will get POY because his team is weak and he wasn't that great in the OOC schedule but his emergence in CAA play this year has been quite remarkable. His conference scoring rate of 23.4 ppg has only been bettered by Gary Neal in the years since 2005-06 that stats are available on CAAsports.com (he is tied with Charles Jenkins). Those guys were both seniors and went on to the NBA. This is from a guy that scored 1.6 ppg last year and wasn't even a full time starter until the CAA schedule was well underway. In recent games, it seem no one can stop him and he has 10 straight games of scoring more than 20 points. The scary thing is he is just a sophomore.

In terms of conference scoring, Daniel Dixon follows up the the three mentioned above (Neal, Jenkins, and Wright-Foreman) as having the best in-conference scoring average (tied with Damion Lee) in the years for which stats are online. Clearly the defense isn't as tough as in years past, but still nice numbers from these guys.

RE: POY
For POY, how much are conference stats weighted vs. Non-conference?

I think it is probably up to the individual voter. If you look at the CAA handbook there is really no guidelines on the voting, it just lists the awards to be presented. There could be additional guidelines for MBB as the general CAA handbook doesn't even specify who votes (I believe it is a mixture of press, coaches, and perhaps SIDs.)

To me the conference stats seem the best way to measure players against each other especially with the CAA's balanced schedule. The drawback though is ignoring the first part of the season - although some would probably argue that it is only the conference season that matters.

I guess perhaps, we will see in this year's voting. TJ Williams seems to have been the strongest over the full year including leading his team to victory over teams like Michigan State and Connecticut on the road. Guys like Dixon and Wright-Foreman have elevated their play in the conference though.

Although historically scoring is one of the most important factors, there are plenty of other subjective things that go into the voting as well such as performance of the team and how well rounded the player is (not just a scorer). That is part of what makes it fun to speculate and argue about it here.

RE: POY
With TJ Williams getting a triple-double on Thursday night, NOW we can probably put him as the top dog in the race. Another strong showing on Saturday and a Player-of-the-Week honor would give him 3 on the season (1 in CAA play).

RE: POY
Dixon put up 32 today, which should keep him in the conversation

RE: POY
Think this up in air. Someone unexpected could get it because the expected are taking votes away from each other. Will probably be a very close vote.
