More Baylor details

Who knows how much of this is true, but absolutely have to take the claims seriously, given what we know of Baylor's program. If ever there was a death penalty candidate, it's this one. They put football over the lives and wellbeing of their students. They don't deserve athletics; they clearly can't handle it

"who knows how much of this is true"
At this point I'm taking a guilty until proven innocent position. It is too consistent with what we know of Baylor, and high $$$ college sports in general.

Briles directly implicated in coverup of sexual assault cases
http://m.chron.com/sports/columnists/dia...904097.php

This could be witness tampering, destruction of evidence, obstruction of investigation, perjury.

Just what you want from a Baptist University.

While this is at the bottom of the list of the people/entities affected by this atrocity, the Baylor University name is going to be tarnished for decades to come. When I see a Baylor/Penn State car decal or other paraphernalia, their respective transgressions within their athletic departments are automatically the first thing that pops into my mind.

Meanwhile, Baylor Basketball carries on with nary a trace of odor from the football scandal.

RE: More Baylor details
I happened upon an extended ESPN panel discussion yesterday going in depth on the most recent Baylor football rape/enabling/subculture allegations. It was relentless, with a couple of the panelists openly calling for criminal charges against Baylor staffers. Things being said like, "The most despicable thing I've seen reported in my whole career in sports." The panelists were unanimous in calling for the NCAA to investigate and invoke the Death Penalty.
And, at that point, it was pointed out that the NCAA doesn't want anything to do with the investigation.

This in itself is remarkable, inasmuch as among the many issues afflicting the football program, unlike the men's basketball program no one has yet to die....

I'm sure the rape victims are sympathetic. I'm not sure Art's daughter is the proper arbiter of what is "disgusting".

I'm quite certain she isn't. And looking at her last name, is she married to the assistant who was disciplined for an earlier incident? Fine judge of folks, she is.

Basketball Program covers up a Murder. Football Program covers up Sexual Assaults.
Baseball Player involved in animal abuse.... Administration never took decisive action about a corrupt culture of criminality.

Classic comments from Staley Lebby. Whenever I think of "a man of incredible character & Faith", I'll think of Coach Art Briles.

Yep, she is.

From Jeff Lebby's Baylor bio: "Lebby and his wife Staley, the daughter of former Baylor head coach Art Briles, ...."

(I'll leave it to others to cite what sort of discipline he may have gotten. Searching for ["Jeff Lebby" discipline] I found quite a few articles that mention allegations and Briles' intention not to discipline his son-in-law.)

IIRC, he was suspended for one game--which also IIRC, he spent standing on the sideline (although away from the players' area) in civvies.

While certainly not good for Baylor's image, I'm not going to put that anywhere near what the players did. This would've been consensual.

RE: More Baylor details
I guess this is illustrative of the problem.

"He has always been a players coach & wanted nothing but the best for every single one of them. He has only kept coaching as long as he has to build a sturdy foundation for his kids & grandkids.

"I guess a man that has resurrected your program and made you a top 10 program wasn't worth fighting for or defending. The easy way out was taken."

"...always a players coach & wanted nothing but the best for every single one of them" Nothing wrong with this on the surface. However a coach in DIV I has to remember he works for the university and its interests. You can't just be friends with your players all the time.

"a man that has resurrected your program and made you a top 10 program wasn't worth fighting for or defending" Again, 'sounds good superficially. This is a myopic observation. The girl grew up in that culture and cannot think about anything else.

"The easy way out was taken." Don't think so. It was the only way out. And I'm sure painful.
