Not a bad idea. It's the only excuse they'd ever have to go to UAB in the foreseeable future.

That actually would be a good idea. Only problem is Alabama vs Florida State, which could potentially be a 1 vs 2 matchup. No way they'd pass that up for any reason.

Yeah way too many big time matchups early in the year to have a feel good GAMEDAY at "some CUSA school..." as many casual people would say.

It's a good thought and maybe would work if our 1st home game was in week 2. But I don't see gameday coming to UAB over the marquee matchups of the 1st weekend.

But would be all the more reason to do it. If it were anyone else but ESPN another might enjoy sticking to Alabama.

"The Alabama/FSU game would certainly be the logical choice for Gameday, but since they are the ones that attempted to kill the UAB football program we decided that giving UAB the chance to showcase their revival is a much better story to tell the college football world."

Of course that will never happen. ESPN and Alabama to include the SEC are partners. They probably wish Alabama would have succeeded in killing UAB.

I know it would never happen, but how cool would it be if they added a third(G5) game either Friday night or Sunday afternoon.

Atlanta United's capacity at MBS is going to be 29k. Pick any two teams from CUSA, AAC or SBC within a couple hundred miles.

Crazy how they are throwing around money for stadiums down there.

If they gave bama the middle finger and came here, I might change my mind about ESPN.

There will be 3 games in town that "weekend".
Thursday Aug 31, Georgia St vs Tennessee St - Georgia State Stadium (formerly Turner Field)
Saturday Sept 2, Alabama vs Florida St - MB Stadium
Monday Sept 4, Georgia Tech vs Tennessee - MB Stadium

GSU has Memphis coming in late in the season as our other OOC opponent. I really wish we had worked to make THAT our new stadium opener instead of the FCS game. I know we won't draw anywhere close to the numbers the other 2 games will bring but it should draw some fan and media interest all the same.

One problem with UAB, (or my school too - USA) hosting 'college gameday' is optics. Where are you going to put the broadcast booth? Legion Field? Not really much of a view. The stadium isn't on campus, it isn't pretty, it doesn't really have much a view, and it isn't in a visually appealing area.

It's highly possible you'll have more Tennessee State fans there than Memphis would bring, even with so much going on that weekend. And be careful because you could be leaving the stadium with an"L". Not sure what type of talent they are bringing back, but they are well coached. I think they lead Vandy at the half last year.

I am not expecting many from Tennessee State. Probably the same amount we will get for Memphis. But Tennessee State will be a sellout because its the first game in the new stadium.

It's a shorter drive from Nashville on a holiday weekend and I wouldn't be surprised if there were more TSU alumni locally.

Not our first time hosting an HBCU and experience say that most HBCU fans save for "big games" against another HBCU they have history with. But again, I am not worried about how many fans are in attendance on 9/2. Will likely be SRO.

TSU has a huge alumni base in Atlanta, they have several players from the Atlanta area. If its a nice weekend they will bring 5k
