Those black colleges can sometimes travel well if the location is relatively nearby and exciting. Jackson State vs. USM remains one of our all-time best attended games, and we hadn't even expanded our stadium yet.

Well there were eleven months between the final Braves games and the first Georgia State game and I think they're doing just the first phase this year, could be wrong, I'm sure Panama will be along to elaborate at some point

Our second-most attended game at the Joe was the season opener against Southern in 2015. RVs all over Ruston.

Of course, it helped that Southern's biggest rival (Grambling State) is literally right next door to Ruston and several of their fans showed up. But still. Y'all might get a good crowd.

Really sucks that Georgia State just gets handed a nice stadium like that. I guess that **** is just an example of why I live up here and not down there. Watching the damned power go out during the Super Bowl was pretty inspirational, too.

It may have been a relative steal, but Georgia State bought Turner Field for $22.8M and are spending another $26M on the conversion.

By up here vs down there, you mean Atlanta rather than New Orleans?

Saturday Sept 2, Alabama vs Florida St - MB Stadium
Monday Sept 4, Georgia Tech vs Tennessee - MB Stadium

GSU has Memphis coming in late in the season as our other OOC opponent. I really wish we had worked to make THAT our new stadium opener instead of the FCS game. I know we won't draw anywhere close to the numbers the other 2 games will bring but it should draw some fan and media interest all the same.

I wish we had UAB on 9/2

It's highly possible you'll have more Tennessee State fans there than Memphis would bring, even with so much going on that weekend. And be careful because you could be leaving the stadium with an"L". Not sure what type of talent they are bringing back, but they are well coached. I think they lead Vandy at the half last year.

Shaping up to be a huge crowd for the The Return. Looks like over 44,000 tickets sold thus far. The walk up could push it to a record crowd for us.

How does a team that couldn't draw 12K before the 2-yr hiatus end up selling 44K tickets for a newer version team full of no name athletes who haven't played college ball in at least 2 years? You guys must have one hell of a salesmen in your AD role.

2014: 21,841 avg then the rug was pulled. If you want, call the additional 22k a FU to the shady, petty cabal who assumed Alabama still operates by 1950's political machinations (it mostly does, of course, until a bunch of people kick the bucket which makes the return even sweeter). We can return to standard "attendance smack talk" rules for UAB next season if we must. In the meantime, for 2017 at least, STFU and find another tree to hump.

UAB spent decades fighting a group that was dedicated to ending UAB football and turning the university back into a medical school with a commuter college attached. luckily a lot of those people have retired from their positions of power and can no longer harm UAB. Those that remain now face a united group with support from the local business community. No longer will the sports editor of the local paper order the UAB beat writer to portray things in a negative light. No longer will the head of the park board which runs legion field order his minions to usher people arround the turnstyles when posible to depress attendence or not restock soap and toilet paper in the restrooms. There was a lot of devious #### that went on in the past. Those of us who have been arround the program for the past thirty years could spend days telling accounts of all the **** they have pulled.

The environment UAB faces today is entirely different than what we faced in 1999 (our first season playing football in CUSA). UAB now has the backing a some of the most influential business leaders in the state. UAB wont be pushed arround and bullied with impunity any more. The fight is not over and while the playing field is not even its a hell of a lot closer to being level than it was in the past.

I know it sucked, but I think the best thing that ever happened to UAB was the BOT shutting it down for the killing blow. They took their shot and it backfired completely. Instead of making UAB Irrelevant it gave them more press and good will then it ever had.

Welcome back Blazers!

Welcome back UAB. I displayed a UAB avatar in solidarity that at some point I decided to keep until you guys hit the field again. Today I changed my colors back to blue but I can appreciate how long you guys had to wait. Enjoy tomorrow and kick some ass. Blaze on!

We had 3 crowds larger than 25,000 in 2014. The Old Gray Lady isn't much worse off than she was then.

Hey at least give us credit for what we do draw. Don't short change us Bulldog. I also think people forget how damn big that place is too. We can put the capacity of many FBS stadiums on the home side out of camera view and you would never see them. It would look empty. We have some things in place this year to make it more cosy.
