Exclamation PAC only has 6 bowl tie ins for 2017
With the Rose Bowl being a part of the playoff in 2017, there's no guarantee that the PAC will go there. If a PAC team isn't one of the 4 chosen for the playoff, here's their Bowl tie ins this season:
1. Alamo Bowl
2. Holiday Bowl
3. Foster Farms
4. Sun
5. Las Vegas
6. Cactus

If the PAC doesn't get into the playoff and has say, 9 bowl eligible teams, it could get interesting to see where the other 3 bowl eligible teams end up. This year they had 6, the year before they had 10!. No Poinsetta Bowl to fall back too. Maybe no Independence Bowl either.. The New Mexico Bowl is a bowl they've sent teams too a lot lately but CUSA now has that locked up. Do they push the SB out of the Arizona Bowl? Interesting...

Cheers!

If P12 team isn't selected for playoff, they're guaranteed to be in an access bowl.

No need to worry we will be in the playoff anyway.

Correct. The effect of the Rose and Sugar being playoff games next season is that if any of those 4 conferences, Pac-12, Big Ten, Big 12, or SEC, has its champ in the playoff, they are not guaranteed a 2nd CFP team, whereas in the other years they automatically get a 2nd CFP bowl team if they place a team in the playoff.

Odds are good that they would have two teams in NY6 bowls. The only thing they have to worry about is if there are more than 78 eligible teams.

Correct, with the one caveat that the Orange Bowl will take the highest ranked non-playoff team out of a pool of the Big Ten, SEC or Notre Dame.

Actually it's a non champion non-playoff team. Like if it was next years setup Penn St would not have been eligible to go to the Orange Bowl- they would have had to go to one of the Peach, Cotton, or Fiesta Bowls.

How do they do that? Break the contract and pay a penalty? No idea.

Heart of Dallas rarely has a Big 12 opponent for C-USA. A guaranteed PAC 12 tie-in might be attractive.

So if they aren't picked up for the playoff which is both the Rose and the Sugar, they'll still go to either the Peach or the Fiesta because the Orange is taken as well? So basically the Fiesta is where the PAC 12 winner will go if they aren't picked by the playoff?
Cheers!

If that happens I"m sure there will be some bowls trying to dump thier CUSA, SB, MAC, team to get a PAC school.

At the end of the day the whole bowl system needs an overhaul. It's trying to stay the same as the best games are being controlled by ESPN in the playoff or by conferences with the Rose, Sugar, Orange.

RE: PAC only has 6 bowl tie ins for 2017
2016 6 teams bowl eligible
2015 10 teams bowl eligible
2014 8 teams bowl eligible
2013 9 teams bowl eligible
2012 8 teams bowl eligible

so 5 year average of 8.2 teams. So with 6 other bowl tie-ins, and the playoff/access team- looking like normally short 1 team(if they don't get 2 in between playoff/access).

You should change the title since they have 7 tie-ins every year
1. Rose or When Rose is semi, PAC12 Guaranteed CFP bowl Access bowl if not in Semi-Finals.
2. Alamo Bowl
3. Holiday Bowl
4. Foster Farms
5. Sun
6. Las Vegas
7. Cactus

Granted percentage wise of the P5's they have the smallest 58%.

B12 has 7 Bowl Tie-ins which is 70% of the total league
ACC depending on the year has no worse than 9 teams 60% up to 11 teams 73% (Including ND in calculations. St. Pete every other year and Orlando NYD if B10 is in Orange)
SEC has Min 10 71% and up to 11 with Orange 78%
B10 has 64% 9 slots every year (Gives up Orlando for Orange)

RE: PAC only has 6 bowl tie ins for 2017
Easy solution: new bowl in the Rams/Chargers stadium between the Big Ten and PAC.

Big Ten kills off its Heart of Dallas/Armed Forced rotating tie.
