RE: CUSA Football schedules out.
Would be a really good schedule if the Stanford game was actually a home game.

Looks like we won't play MT until 2019 at the earliest.

RE: CUSA Football schedules out.
Caught a break with no MTSU. And I guess the conference decided to keep us at home versus UNT for a second straight year? Probably to offset our @ UAB game. Like that the bye is at the halfway point of the season too.

I'm glad we no longer go on the road to all the other Texas schools the same year.

I was just lamenting the fact that we don't... Because of my location, it's pretty easy to drive and see away games at Denton, El Paso and San Antonio.
But making road trips to see us play UTEP and UTSA this season is fine with me.

1 home game the first 5 weeks of the season and 2 home games the first 8 weeks (7 games + off) make it tough to build a fanbase, even if the team does well next season. I guess the @UH game can be well-attended since it is in Houston. Still, not many opportunities to admire the Patterson EZF or for the MOB to perform.

Rice-Stanford game is still up in the air for date and location. NCAA approval needed if game will be played in Australia.

My first reaction was - Homecoming may be a bit of a downer this year. I doubt it will be the Army game, and it won't be the North Texas game. So it'll be either against Southern Mississippi or Louisiana Tech (most likely). So much for getting an easier opponent.

RE: CUSA Football schedules out.
Looks like more of the same.

2-4/1-5 before bye week...after a surprising competitive game for 3 quarters in Australia with lots of new schemes, players, etc. that confuse Stanford, some optimism returns but then Parliament queues the DB threads at the bye week to leave before end-of-season after losing badly and not competitive with Coogs or Pitt, and playing a toss-up/coin flip game at home to a bottom-10 FIU.

2-4/3-3 after bye week....queue the spin of how 'Rice finished strong', 'improved from 2016', etc. but no butts-in-seats and apathy reaches all-time high

Over/under is 4.5 W's 7.5 L's Without something really changing in Spring from the new coaches, new schemes, emergence of a QB, etc. hard to take the over on that but will always be looking for a reason to have my glass half-full.

RE: CUSA Football schedules out.
Our first home game is September 23 which is about when the football season started back before 1971 when we played only 10 games. Maybe that would get rid of the possibility of the really hot home games. However, back when we had night games starting around 7pm until the end of October and then it would be 1:30 day during November.

We got a break with FIU in place of Middle Tennessee State, and North Texas at home again with UAB on the road. We could have an upside to reach six wins on this schedule, but it means beating some 2016 bowl teams like Army, UTSA, Southern Miss and Old Dominion.

So how soon after the end of the season will we find the supposed home game vs UH will be moved to NRG, London, or Reykjavik?

We all understand the need for money, but enough is enough. It's like putting someone on a diet and giving him/her just broccoli and cauliflower. If he/she never has even a little something tasty, he/she will quit the diet altogether.

You are wrong. In trying to cure the patient, you are going to kill the patient.

Why even have collegiate football if there is no one except family members to watch? At that point, it just becomes women's volleyball or women's soccer.

The patient is going to die anyway unless we do something. Your point is a valid one. So is mine. We don't have enough revenues to sustain the program. We're not going to get there without doing stuff like this.

My proposed approach is the same it has been for many years:

1) Get basketball into the black, instead of losing a couple of million a year.
2) Play 2 moneybag games, UH, and one peer institution for OOC, and use the money to build football to the point of dominating CUSA

The numbers don't lie, there really isn't another viable option. If that kills the program, it was going to die anyway.

You know more about the situation than I do.
What's happened to the money from previous games at Reliant/NRG?

I'm sure it's a combination of both, but how much is it a lack of money or not being willing to spend what money we do have or could access?

My dietician just told me to cut back on the shredded wheat and start eating bacon and eggs.

We are so far below the norm in every aspect of revenue generation for athletics that every dime has had to be used to keep the program afloat. This group is actually doing a better job with that than any of their predecessors, but we are so far behind the it is going to take a while to fix things.

Sooner or later, you run out of somebody else's money. And that's where we are.
