OT: Poinsettia Bowl shutting down
I wonder if this is the start to others folding or just an isolated incident:

RE: OT: Poinsettia Bowl shutting down
If the MAC loses a bowl spot--I'm all in favor. They were 0-5 this year and are an over rated conference. Also(IMO) we should not have 5-6 teams in bowls.Maybe this will reduce that occurring.

Can somebody in the east buy it and move it? Charleston, SC would be nice. Even Norfolk/Virginia Beach would be good once ODUs new stadium is built or Myrtle Beach when CCU gets theirs expanded.

RE: OT: Poinsettia Bowl shutting down
I was surprised with the moratorium on new games that they didn't sell the Poinsettia Bowl to another location or group.

Having said that, the last two bowl seasons have shown that there's 2 too many bowl games, so if we are down one, then we're closer to right sizing. I'm surprised this one was the first to go.

In the next round, I'd like to see the Bahamas Bowl (which will wear off its novelty by then - if it hasn't already) become a South Carolina Bowl (Charleston or Myrtle Beach). I also think there's probably room for one of the other bowls (such as the Cure Bowl which seems like the third wheel in Orlando) to be in Tennessee or Indianapolis to play to the northern C-USA/northern Sun Belt/MAC crowd.

I think the current Detroit Bowl as the #9 Big Ten vs. #9 ACC is a worthless bowl and should probably be put out of the misery at this point. I think that was a much more worth while game when it was the MAC Champ or #2 against the best opponent matchup they could trade an open spot for.

The Independence Bowl has over $1.2M debt, just lost it's third sponsor in the last 4 years, and is contracted to pay the SEC and ACC $7.2M over the next three years. They will join the death list within the next 12-24 months.

Unless the Arizona Bowl can get a better TV deal I could see it going under

Would FIU be interested in hosting the Bahamas Bowl? I'd like to see that one move to the USA and allow more fans to attend.

Florida had 9 bowl games plus the NC last year. I don't know if most fans would want a 10th in the state.

Indy Bowl will be fine. Arizona, Bahamas and Hawaii need to go. CUSA needs to contract with Indy against a P5 and steal an eastern bowl from the belt....Camellia or Cure?

There are 4-5 bowls too many. I expect a few more shutdowns in the next few years

This is an isolated incident because they were owned by the Holiday bowl. If it was separate they still would exist.

My vote would be Camellia. We've already got bowls in Florida. If we could get the I-Bowl away from the ACC, we could essentially revive what we had with the Liberty Bowl and send our champ to play the SEC. Or go the other way and play ACC. Either is fine.

You're not stealing Camelia Bowl with a Sun Belt school located 40 miles away.

You're welcome to take the MAC spot there though. Otherwise our teams have to continue to fill the bowls for them.

I'm getting a bit off topic with this upcoming comment but what a gut shot to the economy of San Diego. First you lose the Chargers which brought 60-70K people (rough guess without looking) to the stadium for 10 games (8 reg season and 2 preseason) and now you've lost 1 of your 2 bowl games which brought around 30k for several days and then the lose of revenue in stores as they will no longer be selling much, if any, Chargers apparel.

I've said it before, but we need a bowl game in Chattanooga. Obviously new bowls aren't in the cards right now, but that would be an ideal spot for the Eastern division.

I'd love for CUSA to take the Camellia bowl from the MAC. MAC#1 goes to the DG Bowl (unless access). So I'd really like another game against a good CUSA team.

Also, Chatty or Charleston would be a great place for a bowl too.

Actually the MAC appears to not really play the #1 slot thing. They might say "Mobile is spot 1", but history shows that the number one metric they actually use for bowl placement is rotation.

Yeah, at the least. Would love a 30 game bowl system. 7 slots for P5 conferences, 5 slots for G5.
