Poinsettia Bowl No More...
The San Diego Bowl Game Association board of directors voted to amend its focus and produce just one post-season college football game in 2017: The Holiday Bowl. The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl played its final game in 2016 after a 12-year run.

For TV interest, Poinsettia Bowl peaked in 2008 for No. 9 Boise St vs. No. 11 TCU (3.7 rating). By 2015, Boise St-N. Illinois drew a 0.9.

Hopefully the MW get into one of the MAC primary bowls and bumps the Sun Belt out.

That is interesting. I know attendance is not great but the city just lost the Chargers and I would think any events they can get in that empty stadium would be worthwhile. They were still making a ton of money from the TV revenue.

The Holiday Bowl is moving to Petco park in 2018.
I wonder if the city of SD will move on demolishing the stadium after the 2017 Holiday Bowl.
There is interest in a MLS team moving into SD so maybe SD St could work together with them to get a 35k-40k stadium.

But I enjoyed watching NIU lose all three times there and getting destroyed in two of the games.
At least the curse of the Poinsettia is over for us.

Wasn't that game on a Tuesday at like 1pm Pacific time? The timeslot was not set up for success.

Guys, except for friggin diehards and the 8 MAC fans out there who like to bust our balls, nobody saw or remembers that game (and I'm not sure about the 8 MAC fans, either).
It was an embarrassing display, but if a G5 Power falls in the forest and nobody's around to hear it, etc, etc...

We must be setting the record for playing in bowl games that go extinct soon after we play in them.

Thanks for the clarification, Boca. I figure I'll be hearing from the other seven sometime soon.
Doesn't Toledo have some new 9 star transfer from planet Saturn that's supposed to prompt our immediate MAC surrender for the next half-decade? Or did PJ take him to Minnesota?

I am still trying to figure out which beating was the worst Boise or TCU?
Just brutal football.

Never understood why a city would want or need to host TWO bowl games.

San Diego is an awesome city and has beautiful weather nearly year round. I would love to live there again someday.
