RE: Open Thread - 2017 Baseball Season
Cards get game 2 in series, 7 - 6 over Wake.

My first game of the season -- decent crowd, beautiful weather. And a fun game to watch. I thought Wake had us, when they pulled ahead 5 -3 top of the 7th. But the Cards answered, to take a 2 run lead into the top of the 9th. Wake scored one, and had runners on 2nd and 3rd, before Heinzmen struck out the last batter to hold off the Deacons.

Wake is damn good. I expect big things from them going forward.

Rubber match tomorrow afternoon, in what should be another beautiful day -- temps getting close to the 80 mark.

Cards take series, win game 3, 7-5 over Wake.

Cards got out to a 5 - 1 lead, and Wake battled back to tie things at 5. Devin Hairston drives in 2 in the bottom of the 8th, and Sam Bordner comes in to close things in the top of 9th.

Cards are 27 - 4 overall, 12 - 3 in conference.

Swept by a terrible Notre Dame team. On the verge of dropping sub .500. That 30-win streak for 30 years is in serious trouble.

I'm in favor of wholesale change at this point, including firing Danny Hall.

Heels beat BC 17-7 yesterday.
Beat the Eagles 16-4 in today's first game and are up 13-1 after 4 in the second contest.

RE: Open Thread - 2017 Baseball Season
It was a battle this weekend for the Cards to win the series over the Deacs. Wake has a really solid club and I thought Louisville's home streak was in jeopardy.

The Cards pulled out tight wins Sat. & Sun. though. That extends the streak to 31 straight regular season series wins at home. The streak dates back to the 2013 season.

As a big ND baseball fan (I follow ND baseball more than basketball, etc..), that sweep was shocking to me.

I know how bad of a coach Mik Aoki is and how bad this ND team is.

They have won 6 of 8 (blew a 3-0 lead against Michigan, grrr...) since they finally get to play home games, so maybe Tech caught them at a bad time.

ND is 7-8 at the halfway turn in ACC play. I never would have imagined that a week or two ago.

Next up:

Weekday home games against Michigan State and Toledo and a weekend series at Wake Forest.

Wake Forest has a solid club. It will be a good test for both programs.

Oh, I know how good Wake Forest is.

I will be happy if ND avoids the sweep.

RE: Open Thread - 2017 Baseball Season
How rough a season is BC having? The Eagles were drilled in every game by UNC this weekend, and BC fell to 1-14 in conference play, losers of 14 straight. They are allowing 9 runs per game in ACC play. Due to their solid SOS they actually have a higher RPI (#120) than Duke and VT right now, but that won't last.

Take a look at Boston College's combined record in conference play this academic year for football, basketball, and the first 50% of baseball. 5-36 for the Eagles. Hopefully they regain a competitive standing soon in the most prominent sports.

They did make the NCAA tourney last year, and they are the last school to win a regular season series against U of L ... so this year must be a rebuilding year.
