WAC Football
I used to post on the WAC board, by the same name, until UTSA left for CUSA.

So whats the latest and the greatest on WAC Football?

Best summed up by Simon and Garfunkel as "The Sound of Silence"

I might not say that for sure. I know three schools in the WAC have mentioned that they would think of adding football.
Grand Canyon U., Utah Valley and UTRGV

Some schools want to join FBS. UTRGV, Wichita State, Youngstown State. Plus, there are some Lone Star conference, RMAC and Great West schools could move their football programs up from D2. GNAC is down to 5 schools, and the Big Sky is full unless they take a school like Azusa Pacific as a football only, and Azusa Pacific joins WAC for all other sports.

Sorry, friend, but the GCU Football ship sailed long, long ago. Perhaps you are referring to the once commissioned feasibility study GCU conducted on launching a football program, but the outcome of that was a pretty definitive "No."

I am vaguely familiar with UTRGV's recent moves toward starting football and hadn't heard about UVU. I can say for certain, though, that the football dream is dead at GCU. Much to Lopes87's chagrin, I might add!

RE: WAC Football
UTRGV is the only WAC member likely to start football. It is their main athletic goal and have a brand new stadium ready to use. I'm sure a Southland invite will be extended around 2019/2020 when football starts.

Please stop talking about WAC football. There is no way any of the present WAC schools are going to start a football program. The majority of the fans barely have a fan base for Olympic sports. Nowadays building a football stadium is big big bucks and it's not going to happen, I don't care what that delusional North Dakota fan keeps blathering about in his never ending boring realignment threads.

Are you sure it may not happen? Never say never. Surprises can come up smelling like a rose.

Not trolling. I would love to see the WAC back with football. I have been a fan of WAC football since the 1980s. That is why I don't like the snobbery of schools and fans from the schools that do not have football. If I had my way? I would make the whole D1 schools sponser football. If they refuse? They will be dropped to D2 status.

The question about how stable would the WAC be with Chicago State could be gone by this fall? With the WAC spread out too far? You may need to look at schools that could help fill in the gaps. That includes football schools. Do you want the WAC to be stable? Or do you want to snob football schools in areas that could help the conference to be around longer? Several Lone Star Conference schools are itching to move up. Both Alaska schools have been mentioned as candidates. Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade both have been mentioned. Several other California schools besides Azusa Pacific are rumored. Academy of Arts in San Francisco does have a very large student body like Cal.-San Diego. Excuse me. It is San Francisco State close to 30,000 students. Cal. Poly-Pomona, and Cal. State- LA is over 20,000. Dixie State has the same size enrollment as California Baptist. They are getting large donations that could show that they are serious to go D1. St. George is not that far away from Las Vegas. Arkansas Tech is larger in student body than Central Arkansas and third largest in the state. UMSL in Saint Louis could be another olympic sports. Simon Fraser is over 35,000 students. Western Washington is over 13,000 and Central Washington is over 10,000.

University Arkansas-Fort Smith
Dallas Baptist
West Texas A&M
Midwestern State
Tarleton State
Texas A&M-Commerce
Texas A&M-Kingsville
Angelo State
All could move up. Those Texas schools all had articles in recent years that they are looking to join D1.
Central Oklahoma, 16,000 +
Fort Hays State 14,000 +
Central Missouri
Lindenwood
St. Cloud State
Mankato State
Minnesota-Duluth
Metro State 24,000
Colorado Mesa 11,000
Colorado-Colorado Springs 10,000
Regis
Oakland City in Indiana needs a home.

You could see there are a lot of schools to choose from. If the Big Sky sheds some southern schools to the WAC? You could see some call ups in the area to fill out the rest.

I favor Western Washington to join the WAC since I went there when I was 5 to 7 years old to the campus to get hearing tests since I was born with a deformed inner ear. Washington is my birth state. I am one of those who would love to see more west coast schools to move up. I even would loved to see Arizona Western in Yuma go to a 4 year university and move to D1. Yes, I root for little kids to succeed and move up. Many of these schools at D2 could use some spotlight to attract more students and all that.

WAC tried to add western washington to be a travel partner for Seattle when idaho left they turned the wac down.

RE: WAC Football
DavidSt has made the case for spiting the SLC into two conferences (another Airport 8?) with all those Texas and Plains schools. The SLC has 14 schools, 13 playing FB, a couple more move ups and a split is inevitable.

But the WAC is the West and that means Pacific and Mountain time zones, and no FB schools. No interest in anyone 100 miles east of El Paso or Denver

So when will UMKC be kicked out?
