The logical candidate would be Northern Colorado, who is not particularly close to any other school in the league. UNC is a WAC member in baseball as well.

Well, football at PSU is always on a razor's edge as they have to be self funding to keep football. There have some years where they have contemplating dropping football.

Actually, Sac St. Would probably be the better candidate for the WAC.

MVFC schools have the most balls to try to go FBS as one by using WAC's FBS status. Several members were already FBS at one time from 1978-1981 with New Mexico State.

As much as I would enjoy an FBS MVFC I am highly skeptical that this is what they have in my mind. Many feel that it would be an incredible stretch to inteprete that the WAC has a mandate to sponsor FBS let alone a conference that sponsored FBS a few decades ago and technically have FB administered as a separate league.

NDSU, SDSU, Mizz St, and Y'town St probably have the means and support to play at that level. I don't know that UNI, USD, UND, Illinois St, WIU, SIU, and Indiana St do.

Perhaps instead of replacing UND as the 12th member the Big Sky should permit Sacramento St to court the Big West for full membership and draw the league back to 10 full members with a tighter footprint.

Someone on here suggested trying to boot Sacramento St to the WAC but somehow I don't think that the Hornets would go for it. The travel is about the same even though they'd be picking up two instate opponents in Cal St Bakersfield and Cal Baptist your talking trips to Utah, Seattle, Phoenix, Las Cruces, Brownsville, and Kansas City. Now if the WAC somehow got UCSD, which is doubtful, then maybe they make the move.

UND has a far bigger budget than any of them, including Wichita State, as part of our ticket sales doesn't even see the light of day, as 2/3 of ticket sales goes directly to a charitable trust that isn't part of UND athletics yet. With nearly 250 k ticket saless just for hockey, America's hockey leader for years running, that is much more revenue than most G5 schools see. Students even have to pay for their hockey tickets, as they aren't free for them.

So....I'm going to throw this out in conjunction with Seattle's coach Dollar saying that the WAC will have another expansion. The move of North Dakota to the Summit will make Oral Roberts or Omaha rethink their stay and possibly join the WAC.

Was just about to post this. ORU probably wouldn't want to hop around again after the Southland fiasco.

But would Oral Roberts be better in the WAC?
Summit has 4 Dakotas, a remote WIU, and faraway Fort Wayne and IUPUI. Omaha and Denver are the only two probably not seen as a negative by ORU.

WAC gives them closer geographical rival in UMKC than anyone in Summit. If you travel to Illinois, at least play in Chicago (Chicago St) than middle of nowhere in WIU. Rio Grande Valley is a game in Texas, where they recruit from. NMSU is a bigger program than anyone in Summit (except maybe NDSU) and is same distance to ORU as 4 Dakotas. Flight trips to Seattle/California/Phoenix more enticing than anything in Summit.

Of course Summit offers 10x more long term stability, but WAC would be a funner conference for Oral Roberts short term, and easier path to autobid. WAC should press them.

Edit: And ORU is big on baseball too, where I'd imagine WAC weather is more desirable than Summit weather.

I wonder if they will try to get Northern Colorado next.
Good travel partner for Denver and it would leave only Western Illinois without one.

The Big Sky could stay at ten or add CSUB and Seattle or wait for NMSU.
Or stay at ten hell I don't know its the realignment board.

They can't go FBS. The Slummit cannot go FBS. They are not allowed to.
Cheers!

It was sarcasm.

Bad idea for the Sky to give away Sac State. It would lose its only full California member.
