Urban Meyer's son commits to UC Baseball
Nate Meyer
‏@nxmeyer15

Honored and humbled to say that I have committed to further my academic and athletic career at The University of Cincinnati. Go Bearcats!

Not a bad football player either...

2018 athlete.

Speaking of baseball, here's a writeup of this year's signing class: http://www.gobearcats.com/sports/m-baseb...16aaa.html

Also, I think we are under like 30 days until the season starts. Season tix are cheap!

Ohio State couldn't make room for this kid? He'd go to school there tuition free right?

Regardless, glad to have him!

Only $30 ( $15 if you're old03-old).

RE: Urban Meyer's son commits to UC Baseball
Looks like Nate went to Bishop Watterson. Good small private high school. Kind of surprised he didn't go to St. Charles Prep since it is the better high school.

Pretty sure Ohio State only offers 1/2 tuition to children of employees not that Meyer couldn't pay full freight anyway.

Maybe Nate didn't want to go to tOSU where everyone will know who he is and prefers to be a little more anonymous at UC. Even if he was playing baseball not football guessing his daddy would be kept in the know.

Nate's aunt is GGi Escoe, Vice Provost at UC and the Meyer family connections run long at UC as I am pretty sure Urban's Dad is a UC grad too.

If you want to play sports outside of lacrosse and hockey you go to Watterson or Desales. Waterson was a bit of a DIII powerhouse when Golden(I think) was there.

You are right he probably decided on BW for sports.
SC is better academically not that BW is bad.

In addition to lacrosse or hockey, pretty sure SC has excellent swimming. They hold one of the few boys state titles that does not belong to St. X in Swimming (think it was 2008 that they beat St. X to win it).

He is along with Urb's sisters and his grandfather. I'd be willing to bet that he and Shelley encouraged him to go to UC. Their daughters went to Georgia Tech and Florida Gulf Coast. Gotta keep the tradition alive plus as you stated he can be a little more anonymous here vs. OSU.

Urb used to work out a little with the UC baseball team in the offseason when he was in school to keep his skills sharp for playing for the Braves minors in the summer. He was a helluva lot better baseball player than a football player.

The only sport I miss is baseball. It was my favorite growing up. Good luck to him.

They have also had great soccer teams at St. Charles over the years. They were in the state final game this year.
Plus this really great dude who spent years in the Navy and graduated from UC also went to St. Charles.

Night games were my favorite. Sometimes I'll drive by a lit up baseball field at night with the smell of freshly mowed grass and honeysuckle in the air and it all comes back.

Who's that? :)

Back to the OP, it makes sense he went to Watterson. Meyer lives in Dublin and generally speaking kids in the Northwest part of Greater Columbus go to Watterson. It's not that far of a drive. My wife and I had a condo on Bethel Rd. for years and the houses in the area had a ton of Watterson signs in the yard and rarely did I recall seeing a St. Charles marker. I'd imagine it would be reverse if it were Pickerington, Blacklick, Reynoldsburg (the nice part of Reynoldsburg), etc.

St. Chucks draws from all over Columbus. For instance I grew up basically a street away from where Urban lives. Two kids on my street went to St. Chucks, and a buddy an I took the Watterson entrance exam ( though I chose not to attend). St Charles very focused on academics and often times parents who want their kid in a serious college prep school will send them there, and that is no knock on Watterson's academics.

Don't disagree, it just seemed that the Watterson presence is very strong in NW Columbus. It's like in Cincinnati-- St. Xavier draws from the whole area, but in the Milford/Loveland area where I live you are going to see more kids going to Moeller.

Columbus and Cincinnati are similar. Each catholic HS has a specific geographic region that feeds it although you are free to send your kid to which ever school you choose. Catholic open enrollment. One school is typically seen as the regional choice.

I grew up in Fairfield - I went to Badin however some of my classmates chose to attend St X. Now I'm in NW columbus are my kids had the choice of Watterson or Ready - we're on the south side of the NW which brought Ready into play.
