RE: 2017 EMU pre-Spring ball FB Thread
Dear steve,
Are we playing Miami three years in a row? I knew we would play Bowling Green and Ohio, but Miami? I really don't care, just thought we only played teams twice and then rotated to someone else.

We've not played Kent or Buffalo in a few years. No logic in this schedule.

Might be the toughest schedule in the MAC. Add in the much tougher non-conf schedule, and we'll have our hands full getting to 7 wins again next year.
This is my pre-Spring ball, pre-look at the new OLine, prediction.

RE: 2017 EMU pre-Spring ball FB Thread
MAC inter-divisional scheduling makes zero sense to me. We haven't played Kent since 2012, and haven't played Buffalo since 2014, but we are set up for another home-and-home with Miami?
Actually, I guess I can't even guarantee we will have a home game against Miami in 2018...

Yes. I do not take Charlotte, Rutgers, Army, etc. lightly.

If we get through Charlotte, Rutgers, Army, and Kentucky at 2-2, that will be a great accomplishment.

Agree!!
Charlotte is very winnable. Rutgers isn't great but still a B1G team. Army is much improved and won their bowl. Kentucky went bowling.

It's annoying that we are doing another home-and-home with Army, who has given us fits in the past. Can't imagine the players are big fans of getting cut-blocked every play, either. I wish we could've done something with a Sun Belt team, like Arkansas State or Louisiana Lafayette.

We have another one scheduled with Army after this home-and-home too, I think.
I think this current one may have been scheduled before Lyke got here. (FBSchedules has press releases for most new OOC scheduling, so someone could look back and find out).

RE: 2017 EMU pre-Spring ball FB Thread
I think the offensive is the single biggest question mark and we really need some more reinforcements in this recruiting class.
So I still think we need a gamebreaking WR (by the way can we get confirmation on the Louisville WR from an outside source?), a TE, an OT a CB or two, and either two DEs or a DT and a DE.

@EagleTough, gosh you're right about the MAC schedule. This is so grueling at first glance and unknowns. But, I suppose you gotta play what's on your schedule and if we are any good we should beat these teams. But, like you said, starting 2-2 is so crucial -- but can't say for sure that any non-conference game is in our favor.
However, that's why they play, coach, train, and recruit! You never know what will happen -- just like this year. As Eagle Tough has always said, COACHING changes everything in the MAC.

I curious what the timeframe is for replacing the TE/ST team coach and if we have any candidates so far?

We have no TE's, so probably just let the new OL coach handle that.
ST, who knows? Our punter is great, so he covers up most deficiencies in the punt coverage team. Our punt returns are usually fair catches. Most of our KO's go out of endzone, but those that don't resulted in a few too many long returns, hopefully we get better there. KO return we were OK at best, no real speed return threat, and blocking pretty mediocre.
Overall sufficient. Could be better, could be worse.

Still need coach to oversee those functions and lend a hand recruiting

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet but coach Neathery mentioned on signing day that Jason Beck would be moving to LB while Hoying and newcomer Shaq Jones will compete for the hybrid "Dog" position. Appears to be a move to increase speed at an already deep linebacker group. Wonder how possibility of Anthony Brown getting another year back from injury fits into this.

201 lbs for Beck. Is he big enough for LB?
