I wonder who Peterson had on him that let him get 40? Surely not Casey Jones.

RE: Official Game Thread: @ Samford (W 96-86 2OT)
Tough game, and some really tough calls, especially against Hanner. There was one where it was simply a block out on Walker, which as Forbes described, was a momentum changer. Couldn't agree more. Officiating really dissolved in the 2nd half, both ways. Lots of phantom fouls.
Regardless, we probably should have won this one in regulation, but you know what? We will still won it. I can't believe Chattanooga lost at home to VMI, but I'm not surprised Wofford popped UNCG. Wofford will be tough at their place and those guys can really shoot. Our front court needs to play well in that one and we need to have good defense on their guards, especially Magee.

I thought Banks fouled out?
Forbes just now was quite complementary of HMP's defense tonight, and I agree. He indeed was a disaster on O, but adequately stopped most of their weapons inside, along with serious work by Glass, of course. Walker is so versatile, that nobody can shut him down completely, but HMP's footwork when Walker had the ball was textbook, especially when he was trying to back him down. Some of Walker's spin moves were effective, of course.

Banks did foul out, but I thought Banks gave good effort and was solid for much of the game. I agree w/you on HMP - he was good defensively and gave Walker some trouble. He really did get some bad calls on him. Glass can also be a nightmare offensively, but defensively he can get it done and he does hit free throws better than HMP, and Banks, for that matter, or seems to. Cromer hit some big shots, he's back in the groove, glad to see it. Cromer just finds ways to score, and I think sometimes we take him a bit for granted.
And obviously, Bradford. He won the game in the 2nd overtime. 11 points in that frame alone. Desonta is a guy that really struggles with confidence at times. We need to give him plenty of confidence to take the big shots and take over the game when it's on the line. The kid is really talented. Good win, let's beat the Mocs and take over this league the rest of the way.

Man, I'm not paying attention tonight. Still an impressive 4 to 1 advantage in players fouling out.

Great, gutsy game. The Bucs hung in and pulled one out from a team that had beaten UNCG and almost upset Chattanooga. And they did this on Samford's home floor, while UNCG and Chattanooga got to play them at their places.
Meanwhile UNCG and Chattanooga joined Kentucky, Villanova and Kansas in demonstrating how easy it is to drop a conference game.
The VMI game is kind of unfathomable. It looks like Tuoyo must have been in foul trouble throughout - he only played 19 minutes and fouled out. Even so, you'd think they should be able to avoid giving the Keydets only their second conference win. Wofford is a little more understandable - they're 8-1 at home and very tough when their 3 point shooting is on (11-25).

Good win tonight against a team we could have easily lost to. Wyatt Walker is a beast and if he doesn't foul out I'm not sure we win. As for Chatts loss to VMI.....hilarious. Although I'm worried they will be PISSED on Saturday and ready to play. Hope we are pissed too... We should be after going 0-3 against them last year.

16-5 overall record, 6-2 in conference, and now in a three way tie for 2nd in conference standings. Still many games left and a lot that could happen, but at this point I could easily see this team hitting and possibly passing the 20 win mark during the regular season.

We are at 58 as of right now. First time under 60 this year.

I have absolutely no dog in this (or any) hunt, but I've always considered it 'unfair' that if a game goes into overtime, the ultimate final score is what determines the outcome of the bet - not the fact that the teams were tied at the end of regulation. It's just always seemed to me that when that happens, the teams literally "tied" (based on the *presumed* conditions of the initial bet), and the bet should pay however it needs to on that basis. On the other hand, the parties entering the bet should obviously know this possible scenario, and behave accordingly.
And I think one can see how this game would have changed the betting outcome because of overtime. And to be very, very clear, this is only an intellectual curiosity - not something with financial relevance to me whatsoever. I do not bet on sports in any shape, form, or fashion.
[And in case it's not obvious, this is just my idealism talkin'.]

Yep. Now we know Forbes told 'em at halftime - which explains why they came out of the half meaning bizness.

But remember, Samford has been a better road team in conference than at home. So far, at least, only having 1 home conference win (Wofford).

Here is an odd(?) demonstration of how effective HMP (and Glass) were on Walker inside. He was perfect from the field. BUT.....only 3/3. And then 11/14 from the line, for 17 total points - with 3 TOs. Point being, they harassed (including fouling) him and kept him off-balance most of the game. Sure, he hurt us, but he didn't beat us, and could never get into 'space' or a groove. And HMP, Glass, (and Banks) were able to spread 11 total fouls between them - mostly due to Walker. And along those lines, I thought they should have used Brutus even more. He was effective against us.
Further, I agree that Banks did a good job, too, altho he was not directly guarding Walker most of the time. I thought he had two blocks, but I see the official stats only give him 1.
Walker's a great player - and so is Denzel-Dyson, as I previewed in the "Mid-Major Poll" thread. Heck, those two guys had 20 boards between them.

They went to the NCAA tournament in 76-77. They beat UT in the first year. I think that was Bernie and Ernie.

Sharkey was highly effective on defense, but Samford had to pick their poison. He gave Bradford fits getting the ball up the court, but Cromer was killing them on the scoreboard. They switched Sharkey to Cromer and Bradford took over the game late.
If Sharkey had a twin brother, we would have been in trouble.

It appeared the Bucs were very well prepared for Samford's zone, but they looked ill prepared for Samford's man-to-man. Bet we'll do better when they come to Johnson City.
The Bucs still need to work on consistency. After a spurt to start the second half, the Bucs went through a stretch featuring empty possession after empty possession. During that time, lots of careless and sloppy play. Got to keep working on staying focused for 40 minutes (or more).
Our depth was the difference in this game.

We always say... "Bucs, don't look ahead to the big game". Someone should have told Chattanooga that. I don't understand how Wofford and VMI posted those wins last night. Especially VMI. Woof.
