RE: UC women's basketball has improved this year
I won't act like I follow womans basketball a ton, but if UC were to become competitive then I would tune in for some of their games. The team is 14-5 and has only been blown out twice. They lost 80-38 at Ohio State and 64-47 at SMU. It looks like they have been competitive in their other losses. I do feel it has taken far too long for this program to turn a corner, and losing to Indiana State should never happen.

Ohio State has had a very solid WBB program for a long time, but if we ever want to become a good program we can't be losing to small schools in the same region like Indiana State.

Well, to be fair, nearly EVERYONE gets it handed to them by UConn.

In the off-season UC added a couple of strong coaching assistants: Kia Damon and Geoff Lanier. We got quite the coup in snagging Damon from Penn State. She recruited JUCO Shanice Johnson who has been stellar this year: 15 pts, 9.3 rebounds a game.

Another positive sign is that there are only two seniors on this roster.

You're telling me...here are the last 8 years. It actually got much worse from start to last year, so this year might show just how much assistant coaches can make a difference because we weren't really any better in the recruiting trail outside of Johnson.

2009-10 Cincinnati 12–18 4–12 14th
2010-11 Cincinnati 9–20 2–14 15th
2011-12 Cincinnati 16–16 6–10 T-10th
2012-13 Cincinnati 12–18 4–12 13th
2013-14 Cincinnati 13–18 5–13 8th
2014-15 Cincinnati 8–23 4–14 9th
2015-16 Cincinnati 8–22 4–14 9th
2016-17 Cincinnati 15-4 5-1 4th

We have had one non-losing season in 7, so this year is FAR overdue. I mean, one more win and Elliott has equaled her highest win total at UC...we're still 144 in the RPI though, so we're not making the tournament even if we win out outside of the UConn artillery barrage.

Elliot should have been fired years ago. Few donors or students care but since we have to have a team to make Title 9 BS happy we need a decent product.

We need to be competitive in the AAC and cement ourselves as the #2 in the state. We will likely never be able to beat UCONN for a title. They are just a Juggernaut, But I think if we had the right coach we could eventually compete with OSU as the top program, and we can start making the tournament.

If UC wants to become a better athletic brand then we need to be more than just a football and mens basketball school. It seems we have a good volleyball program, and Neal seems to be turning the baseball team around. We need Woman's basketball, Soccer, and Olympic sports to reach a higher level.

The Olympic Sports are getting better. We have people competing nationally. Women's Soccer and Volleyball made the tournament in the past year. We need consistency in many sports. It seems like we have a good year, and a bad 3 or 4.

Both Dayton and Eggs-avier have had good runs in women's hoops in recent years. We need to beat Eggs every year. Scramble them, poach them, turn 'em over easy.

Women's basketball is odd. UConn beat USF 103-37, and USF is ranked # 23.

There is a huge disparity between the top teams and everybody else.

In men's basketball there is usually the outside chance for an upset and it is extremely rare that a ranked team completely destroys another ranked team by 50 or more points.

We have them at home, though. Could keep the game within 50.

Good lord, though - I just looked at UConn's conference results. Their closest game in conference was a 84-48 win over UCF.

Women's basketball is a whole different world at UConn. When I was living up there 10 years ago every game was on TV, they had a contract with the PBS station. People would actually go to the bars just to watch the games.
