The Missus and I are seeking a quality roofing contractor familiar with architectural style installations in G'town. We also will be doing some exterior window replacement, adding a few exterior doors and painting the exterior brick after the roof and window/door work is done, so perhaps a solid general contractor suggestion would be cool as well. Powell Brothers. I can't recommend them highly enough. They put on a new architectural roof for me last year. Mr. Powell came and gave me a presentation that informed me about all roof options, gave me literature, and listened to what I wanted. He left shingle samples and told me where I could find roofs he had done in the color shingles I wanted. He took extensive pictures of my roof which he e-mailed to me. He patched a large hole and repaired decking. He has a very nice FB page showing his work. His men could not have been more polite, did an excellent job, and left my yard cleaner than they found it, with a nail magnet sweeper, and put the wreath in my shed up on the door. Licensed, bonded, insured, longtime roofer with good BBB ratings. And there is no hard sell to his approach. His price was reasonable.

I would be wary of any roofer who is out-of-state or cannot show all required licenses in Shelby County.

Good for you, because my experience with Powell couldn't be more opposite. I actually told them leave and not come back 1/2 way into the job and had another guy finish the job. It took him one day of what had taken them 3 (and not finished). You can't judge a book by its cover sure applied in this case. Big mistake!

Forgot to add the person i went back to and have used off and on for years is Don Sharp. For everything but the roof.

I would stay away from Hopper Roofing & Home Improvement.

I would definitely recommend Powell Brothers. They have done excellent work for myself and multiple friends and members of my family. Never heard a complaint from any of them. They are Tiger supporters as well.

We chose Powell Brothers as well and really appreciated all of their work from start to finish...I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone.

That's great to hear. I love giving someone a recommendation and it working out well. I have been very blessed to get some amazing recommendations from this board, and esp. if they are Tiger fans, to boot.
