What are the possibilities if we went FBS Independent?

The obvious comparison would be UMass.

Not gonna happen.

I'd take it if it meant the A10 in everything else. The problem is getting into a bowl game if we get eligible.

I admire ambition and a willingness to do what is unpopular for the achievement of success, but...

this would quite simply not be in our interests

We might just as well be an independent as we have teams in 5 different conferences.

That's only because we can't get up for playing these lousy programs that treat us like their NBA Finals! If we played teams that deserved to play us, we'd be doing a lot better!

Becoming an FBS Independent would be reckless at best.
It will never happen, nor should it.

Sometimes some of us sound like delusional JMU fans.

Just because we go independent or even drop back to FCS doesn't mean the A10 would jump to add us. Indeed they don't even need another program.
Additionally, The A10 already has three Va programs, one of them a crapper (GMU). Why on Earth would they want a fourth they don't need, and another potential crapper???!!

Just curious about the opinions of others.

I thought we could schedule one hell of a Football schedule, but look at UMass, what good is it if you win only a few games. I actually like C-USA with the stretch goal of getting into the AAC. The A-10 does not appeal to me.

If ODU were an established program with a strong football reputation, like ECU for example, then going independent might allow the possibility to put together a stronger schedule than staying in the conference. BYU justified going independent for that reason. It gave them the opportunity to play at a level that their conference could not provide. But they have the football legacy to make it work.

But I think that when ODU gets to that level of play, the AAC would come calling by then.

Why would anyone want to be UMASS?

Im all for moving into the AAC, B12 or ACC.

Beating VT every game of the series will get their interest.
