MyBB Attendance
Case in point for the next time we gripe about "only" having 7-9K at a basketball game, just look at this Houston crowd. Yesh.

I want us to have bigger crowds as much as anyone, but always keep perspective.

Go Tigers.

The crowd numbers in the 10's.

RE: Attendance
That's just how strong Memphis basketball is, even if we're down a little we still lead the conference in attendance.

Literally dozens of people there.
Does cbssn pipe in crowd noise like espn has been known to do?

Compared to years passed, tonight was a HUGE crowd. Their basketball support really SUCKS!

RE: Attendance
First and foremost, Houston has a horrible arena and I would like to imagine they have plans for a new one.

Their attendance isn't great but it's clear to me they suffer from a TV side perception, much like we do at the Liberty Bowl. Student section looked good and loud, as did all of the non-TV side.

Their student section easily beat ours. Our student section has been an embarrassment for years.

RE: Attendance
UH has never been the same after Phi Slamma Jamma. UH basketball is maybe the 10th best event sports-wise in Houston after the Texans, Astros, Rockets, Dynamo, Comets (yeah, I know, WNBA, but at least the games I have seen on TV outdraw the UH crowds), UT football, Big12 football, aTm football, UT basketball, UH football. Throw in a crappy arena, in a horrible traffic city (wow, Houston traffic is awful!), a commuter university and many years of middling basketball and you get what you see.

I have to say, the UH game are some of the most depressing games to see on TV. Dark, poorly lit, poorly attended games in a dumpy arena. Reminds me a little bit of our ol' nemesis Southern Miss and Reed Green Coliseum.

And to think, UH was ahead of us for the Big 12.

UH is renovating this facility to the tune of over $100M next year-think the figure is correct. They will not play home games there next year during renovation

RE: Attendance
This is the last year in this arena for UH, but i dont take issue with any comments about the attendance, 3-4k is probably a good guess at tonights attendance and that's about as much as we will draw unless its a top tier team, or a p5 regional team like LSU, A&m, UT etc, then we can get 7k or so.

Realistically UH can hope to do something like SMU has done, the 60m fertitta center will be built by the '19 season and will look nice on tv, but UH will never have to try to fill an arena like memphis, we are on different paths as far as what our team's ceiling is in this conference.

Good win tonight for yall, Memphis is more complete than us but just as mistake prone at times.

Do you honestly think this will make a difference in the pecking order of Houston sports?

Football >>>>>>>> basketball in Houston.

Pro Sports >>>>> UH sports in Houston.

There's no denying UH has money (just look at their endowment), but I cannot fathom how they will ever get more than 10k to a game.....especially with Houston traffic. And by 10k, I mean butts in the seats. I think the last time they sold out was.....maybe against us during the Cal glory days.

1,000,000,000 push for the University will do that....

"Enrollment has gone up by 6,000 students, regents have toughened admissions standards, total giving has increased by 50 percent and new building construction totaling $1 billion is underway. Behind these achievements stands Khator, the highly visible and tireless cheerleader."

$1 Billion Pledge

Go lock down the kids at East. All of em. Land DJ Jeffries. Go pull in a "surprise" from somewhere else - DMV, ATL, etc.

The crowds will show back up. This city supports Memphis basketball. Pastner killed it. Tubby is building...gotta sell hope!

I didn't intend for my comment to be a shot at UH, or any other program in the conference for that matter. I just wanted to point out how, even in our "down" years, our basketball attendance is pretty darn good. Heck, I came across the Alabama-Florida game last week - looked like a good crowd for a high school game.

UH's Billionaire Alum Fertitta donated $20 Million towards the $60 Million arena renovation that will start later this spring when season ends...and UH will play off-campus next year while the renovation is going on.

UH hasn't drawn in basketball for decades (even when they had good teams)...but the school is hoping basically a brand new arena will help draw in more fans...plus even better recruits. (Their new $25 Million Basketball Practice Facility is top notch and that certainly has helped their recent recruiting).

And yes, last night was a "big" crowd for UH basketball.
