Because with Vegas now being a pro football town it's going to suck whatever remaining interest in football is left in the city

I agree with Miami dropping football. They don't have a stadium anyway so it's not a big deal. Let them drop football. The dead program will certainly "fart" like a lot people and animals do on their way out of this world. A blast off outa hee.
Cheers!

What's weird is more people nationally seem to follow Miami than in the state of Florida.

Wrong.

The new stadium built close to campus and the strip will actually be a BOON to UNLV...a program that maybe plays in the worst stadium and worst location in the country...a stadium built far from campus and an outdoor stadium in the middle of a desert.

If they can draw 30,000-35,000 in the new domed stadium close to campus...UNLV could become a successful MWC.

Anything better then their desert dump will be an improvement and help draw more students/fans and $$$.

This? (Closer to campus, closer to the strip)

Or this?

Who doesn't love tailgating in asphalt lots in the middle of the desert in Sept and Oct?

Yeah, it's weird how a program with the allure of Vegas plays out in the middle of nowhere and not close to anywhere with any action.

UNLV has been stuck at Boyd Stadium for 45 years.

A few years ago there was a project to bring a retractable 50,000 seat "college stadium" and event center right next to UNLV's campus (no NFL team)....but now with the state's backing of a new NFL Stadium...its a no brainer for UNLV to end up playing there.

What does the average bandwagon fan / tourist care about how close a stadium is to the university of the team that plays in it?

Maybe it will draw more students who will now be able to stumble out of their dorms and into some seats, but saying it will be a draw for anyone else is a huge assumption.

What isn't an assumption is now UNLV has to compete with yet another entertainment option, this time in the form of a more popular football program.

Why do you assume that UNLV will make more money? The stadium won't be owned by UNLV. Ask temple and USF about all the money they make from their stadium arrangements.

Let's monitor the changes in attendance, revenue, and performance between SDSU and UNLV... That will make it really easy to see who is right and who's wrong.

Sounds like one who has never spent much (if any) time in Vegas before.

Vegas is an EVENT Town...and all events take place on the strip, which is located just down the street from UNLV's campus.

You obviously never spent much time outside in the Vegas heat of Sept and Oct to know that going into a building that would be 72 degrees would be a welcomed amenity.

To not understand that going from an old off-campus 46 year old bleacher seat stadium built in the middle of the desert into a new $1.9 BILLION domed stadium built closer to campus and nearer the strip will help with their attendance, then I don't know what else to say...other than you are trying way too hard to troll.

Pictures of the new stadium design are impressive, as is CSU's new stadium

You'd have a great point if UNLV football was, in any way, a tourist draw. The only benefit UNLV has for having a stadium on the strip would be advertising... all of which is overshadowed by the sea of advertising of anything and everything else that is already on the strip in giant flashing neon and LED lighting.
Things people will leave their homes to vacation in Las Vegas for in decreasing likelihood:
  • The Oakland Raiders
  • The Grand Canyon
  • The Hoover Dam
  • One of the 42 Casinos in the Las Vegas city limits
  • The thousands of live shows, concerts, and conventions per year
  • That one pawn stars pawn shop to go see if they can sell battletoads
  • Legal Brothels
  • Recreating the Hangover
  • Taking shots for every Elvis impersonator they see
  • Getting married in a drive thru chapel
  • Driving through on their way to Los Angeles
  • Taking that wrong turn at Albuquerque

UNLV is moving across city from a stadium they don't own, to next door to a much much much more expensive stadium they don't own. That's the only benefit.

"UNLV is moving across city from a stadium they don't own"--UNLV owns Sam Boyd Stadium and a bunch of land where the new Raiders stadium will be going up most likely. It's not a good thing for UNLV football that the Raiders are coming to Vegas, That we can agree on...but I had to clear that up.
Cheers!

Unlv makes boatloads of $ renting out the Thomas and Mack center. This new stadium may impact that revenue but overall it's great for unlv. Sam Boyd was garbage.
