RE: Nick Marshall....
Needless to say, there are a ton of options out there - from regular transfers to grad transfers to JCs to HS/prep guys still on the market...and even guys like Marshall or Nichols, however unlikely they are...however...that doesn't change the fact that there are a ton of options.

Zero excuse for not being fully loaded position-wise and depth-wise beginning next year.

None.

Zip.

Nada.

I think next year could be really good. More like teams we are used to in terms of personnel.
And if Dedric returns, which is a real possibility, it could be a special season.

His girl I believe is not a kid. A grown woman older than him by a few years.

Over all the teen birth rate is lower than it's been in 20 years.

Nick was not known for making good choices or strong work ethic in high school.

lol I'm confused about your use of the word 'normal'.

Tubby MIGHT put up with him this year with 3 high D1 players. Not a normal year.

Make him pinky promise that he'll act right , then hold him to it . Young men are completely ignorant sometimes and make stupid mistakes , I know I did . One of the things I liked about JP was he wasnt above helping someone get on the right track .07-coffee3

This I believe.

But everything hinges on Dedric. IMO

A front line of a JR Dedric Lawson, KJ Lawson, Rivers, Azab, Rykhoek and a JC/GRAD big man? Pretty good.

Take out Dedric. Eh.

Not a bad idea leaving an scholarship open rather than filling it with a player that won't really add much. Pastner lost a shot at Stokes because he gave away a scholarship...

Don't disagree, but they left open 4 this year...I don't count Jake as true scholarship player.

Yeah, I don't have problems with grad transfers (1 year guys) as long as you leave one open, just in case. As long as they aren't cancerous, it would at least add some practice players. I would have taken just about any grad transfer big this year...

Sometimes you take players in a down year you would not touch with a full team of D1 players (this would be "normal").

Assuming he can get back in school I'd take Nick back. Assuming also that he understands that he should have never walked out in the first place.

We'll probably never know if he really wants to come back, if he'd talked to the coaches, what they really think, etc...

If Chadicakes comes back next year I'm not sure we need another big just to have a body, although I'd certainly take one if Dedric is on the roster.

That is the thing - Nick Marshall has real talent. With the right attitude, conditioning and coachinh, he is FAR from just a body. We only saw flashes last year.

RE: Nick Marshall....
Nick Marshall or Austin Nichols could walk into the Finch and be the starter tomorrow for next year.

Sadly, one may never play the game again and neither will likely ever wear the Memphis uniform again.

Seems like this staff may suffer from the hurt feelings problems that Josh and a lot of the nerd fans suffered from.

Nichols isn't coming here.. It isn't even on the table.

Marshall left on his own, if he wanted to and could actually make the grades, I'm sure Tubby would take him. This isn't a case of hurt feelings, I just don't believe he wants to play here. He's big, but slow as hell.. He'd never be the player some on here think he could be...

I basically said as much.

Marshall recently tweeted he missed playing for Memphis and his background wallpaper is him as a Tiger, so not sure that he does not want to play here anymore.

I agree with the last sentence.

Still think he could be a useful piece and 100% know he'd be the immediate starter next year unless something crazy happened on the grad transfer market.

And this staff doesn't really pull out crazy.

Don't get me wrong, I'd take him in a heartbeat. Although I think he's at best a serviceable player, he'd still start for us next year since we are just that weak in this position. I doubt we'll find much better. I'd say it's a 99% chance that D Lawson is gone next year, so that opens up another scholarship... Possibly another transfer, who knows?

I don't think Tubby would mind taking him back if he thinks he'll help the team and not be a pain in the ass to deal with. He wants to win, no doubt about it. I'll agree he's not the aggressive recruiter that Pastner was, but he's done alright this year so far....
