Probably the best player in the conference, and with him OU looked like the best team. That is awful news.

Sad news for him, Ohio and the MAC.

Amazing thing is that no one watching (at least EMU fans) seemed to know what happened and why he wasn't playing. And then after the half someone noticed that he had a boot on...

Nope. Played in too many games to get a medical redshirt. Feel bad for him.

Potential NBA guy and definitely one of the very best in the MAC. Sorry to see anybody lose the rest of a year but especially a senior.

Sorry to hear this.. All the best to Antonio Campbell.. Always hate seeing any student-athlete get hurt.. especially a senior who won't be able to finish his career.

some may recall in 2013-14 Ohio lost senior Ricardo Johnson for the year when he broke his leg in the last OOC game of the season. Ric was Ohio's best defender. That was a big loss, but losing Campbell is even bigger.

Without Campbell Bobcats were a MAC title contender, without him they not. Middle of the pack at best. They will be lucky to go 9-9 in league play. They have to hope the young players have a fast learning curve with increase playing time.

yeah I agree with this. thanks, guys, for the kind words about Tony. this is a huge loss for us and definitely takes us out of title contention. like John said, hopefully the guys can regroup and at least get some valuable game experience for the guy or guys who will eventually have to fill Tony's big shoes.

I think we have the potential to still be a Top 4 team in this league. We hung with EMU without campbell and now that the team has had some time to prepare knowing he is not coming back I think we can still pull of a decent season. All depends on Carter and Taylor though.

yeah I hope you're right and I usually look on the bright side of things. I think I am still going through the shock and disappointment of what could have been for this team this year - even though they have only showed us that potential in a few games. anything can happen, though, right?! we aren't the first team to go through something like this, and hopefully the guys (especially Taylor and Carter) will learn a lot and step up!

Not for nothing but you guys basically beat us on our home floor without campbell for much of the game due to foul trouble. I still think you have enough talent to fight for a Top 4 seed

I'm selling Ohio as contenders without Campbell, but I'm not yet sure if they will be good or just average without him. Probably the hardest team in the MAC to place at this stage.

Akron and Johnson would have been my picks... This is very tough for Campbell and also Ohio fans. Some other guys will step up, but he can not really be replaced.

RE: Campbell out for the season with broken foot.
freshman Jason Carter or sophomore Doug Taylor were expected to step in and fill Campbell's shoes next year but now that timeline has been bumped up.

Carter looks to be a little further along and has a higher upside, Ohio's ability to be a threat in March will depend at how fast Carter grows in the next 6 weeks. Ohio still has a lot of weapons, he doesn't need to be as good as Campbell, if he can get close to a Reggie Keeley-like level I think the Bobcats can still be dangerous.

In his first career start today Carter played 25 minutes with 15pts/12reb on .500 shooting. vs EMU he played 28 minutes with 14pts/11reb on .571 shooting. Taylor got the start vs Akron so Carter's minutes were limited in that game.

bottom line, if Carter can step in as a starter and produce double-doubles with regularity then I like Ohio's chances.
