Coastal's Conference schedule is crazy tough. (Obviously App and GS didn't share the pictures they had of Karl Benson when they came into the league)
Can they win a few league games? yes...but 4 overall wins is probably where I'd put them for now.

I'm not sure if a second option team in the league helps our defenses better prepare for it or if it gives our defenses another nasty offense to defend. Glad they're here though. It's clear we're adding quality football programs and soon the stigma will be gone.

Uhh, we had UL, stAte, and GS all on the road our first year in the league. Whatever pictures we had, we didn't use them. (Won 2 of the 3 too)

That's what the article states, in more words.
The issue is that there are four programs, of a 12 team conference that finished ranked third in the G5, in the bottom 5.

App beat Arkansas State and ULL on the road their first conference season. I don't need to say how long it had been that anyone accomplished that.
Anything can happen. Coastal could be a stud or a dud but ultimately the only thing people can base their expectations on is the talent Coastal has returning. I personally don't know anything about the quality of recruits Coastal has had or the players they have returning. I personally don't see room for them to crack the top five or six but I could be wrong.

if CCU wins 4 games they can consider that a great season.

I'll say it. It was 2010 Western Kentucky.
But it is kind of a goofy point to make since stAte and ULL don't have synchronized conference home schedules. Not like a bunch of teams play both on the road each year.
For example APP and USA were the only two in 2014 to play at Jonesboro and at Lafayette. In 2013 it was only Troy and Texas State.

No, that is precisely what it means.
Definitely a poor choice of words. Had TK let him hire some of the people he wanted in the first place we might have avoided this issue entirely.

RE: CFN Pre Spring Rankings-Sun Belt Conference
I don't think we finish that low next season, but I can see why we would be ranked that low in the offseason.
I will say though, that we aren't going to be hurting at RB at all. Wesley Fields is a more complete RB than Breida. Breida was a straight line guy. Fields has solid top end speed, but is WAAAAAAY more elusive and harder to tackle. We still have Ramsby who is a punisher up the middle.
QB will definitely be the big ? for us. We have some decent young talent, but they are all relatively untested. With going back to an option game, coaches will likely put a qb that can make the best decisions back there, v putting the best athlete back there.
I could see us dropping a few games early in the season, but picking up steam halfway through the season as everybody figures out the new offense.

Interesting they point to a "massive 2018".
I haven't gotten that far. I am still reeling from 2016.

RE: CFN Pre Spring Rankings-Sun Belt Conference
the big question is how does the coaching staff keep the receiving corp happy knowing that they are going back to a primary run offense? Last year, GS signed a 4-star receiver who redshirted in 2016, he cant be happy that he is going to get limited touches a game, from an unproved qb, and his primary role will be blocking.

These guys signed up to be on a running team. Contrary to what some GS fans believe, there was no bait-and-switch with the offense. Our offensive staff tried to run an option offense and sucked at it.
These guys may actually see more PT with the new offensive staff depending on how extensively we use slotbacks.

We are likely going to throw the ball just as often as we did last season. The difference is our run game wont stink so our receivers should have the opportunity to get some major 1 on 1 situations. If anything I'd say their opportunities have improved with the new coaching staff.
That 4-star receiver signed up to play in a gun-option offense and thats exactly what our new staff is going to continue to do.

Sidenote: The kid is mostly a 3-Star. ESPN was the only one to rate his as a 4-Star. I can't knock it because we all do it, even our beat writers.

Well yeah. But why call him a 3-star when you legitimately say he was a 4? :) Either way we had 2 WRs not just one that was rated an 87. Both should see significantly more PT this season.

RE: CFN Pre Spring Rankings-Sun Belt Conference
Sun Belt bias continues. Even with Georgia Southern finishing 5-7, they beat Troy and played Ole Miss to a 10 point game. Those types of games don't happen by chance and the fact Southern is ranked that low, along with how low the other Belt teams are smells of media bias. At this rate, the highest ranked Belt team according to this publication will be in the 90's.
