And the TV executives could care less. I have now sat through TCU home games that were played during the day at 96 and 97 degrees. Sitting on metal seats in concrete stadiums makes this dangerous. The press comments how the stands have emptied out during the game from their air conditioned press box.

Would balance out the north's disadvantages in baseball. Southern teams can all travel north in August, like we have to for a month or more in baseball.
The thunderstorms can be wicked in the south anyway.

I think it also depends on what time zone you're in. If you are a Pac-12 team in the Pacific or even Mountain time zone, the pressure isn't to play EARLIER, it's to play LATER - for TV sake.
OTOH, the ACC (which is 100% Eastern time zone) is under constant pressure to kick off at noon on Saturdays.
I get that ESPN wants to spread out games all day long: noon, 3:30, 7:00, and 10:30 pm (Eastern times). Generally they ask ACC teams to play at noon EST and they ask Pac-12 teams to play the 10:30 PM EST (7:30 PM PST) games. The SEC, B1G and Big XII can be slotted into any of those times.

I was at a game at Georgia about 20 years ago that kicked off Labor Day weekend in the afternoon. They couldn't get water and cokes out of the concession stands fast enough to meet the demand and I saw two people collapse and have to be helped out by EMT's or paramedics, that was just in the part of the stadium I could see. That game wasn't on TV, no idea who came up with that brilliant idea.

Any southern school or conference that signs contracts that lead to kickoffs before 6 or 7 pm in August or September is acting very, very dumb.
Anybody that claims to care about student athletes and does the above is proving themselves to be hypocrites of the first order.
That is a special kind of stupid.

High school football teams in North Carolina play two games in August but we play at night. Still there are a lot of players who suffer from cramps even at night. It is not too bad for the fans.

Two bye weeks is great for teams and players. It will sail through, because player health/benefits is all the rage nowadays.
Personally, I'd rather push the season back a week and just have Army Navy play a protected Bowl Game at the end of Dec. But doubt that will fly. So week 0 (normally) now becomes week 1.
Wonder if Hawaii exemption will get squashed or if they'll let teams schedule games on week -1 (now).
And I guess this means "fall" camp will start in July. That's sad. They should make a rule only allowing two weeks of practice prior to the first game. If it's enforced universally, it's not a disadvantage for anyone.

Would this move free up some teams that play in NFL stadiums?
Could this be a win/win between the NFL and College football?

I think with the extra week, it now gives teams that option have a 13 game schedule with a bye. My only question, how does this impact the Hawaii/Australia Game rule? Allowing a team to play a week before the official start of the season. Does that rule simply go away?
Here is the USATODAY link http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nca.../96725542/
It seems it would negate as of now unless they keep the spirit of the rule where they would play a week before the season but now will still have 2 byes during the season.

So the NCAA controls the regular season but/and not the post season? That is what it looks like to me. What would happen if the NCAA regained controle of the P5 post season?

Week 0 becomes -1 week.
Cheers!
