Didn't last long. Rice Facilities tweeted at 7:45am:

Quote:Electrical malfunction led to temp. back up. Field is back to normal and ready to go.

What's the bright yellow field in the reflection of the south scoreboard?
There's nothing bright or yellow on the old scoreboard to reflect...

Seems about right. Water was 2+ ft in the streets around Rice and in Montrose. 6 inches in 3 to 4 hours will always do that.

There's nothing bright or yellow on the old scoreboard to reflect...

Below the word "Methodist", there's a over-exposed rectangular patch of lights at the bottom of the scoreboard that has a yellow tinge to it, color that's barely visible only around its edges.

Maybe those lights are actually bright yellow, but were so bright they were washed out in the camera sensor's direct view, but became more visible when muted in the reflection.

That won't be an effective practice field if one of the NFL teams is practicing at Rice (I want to say in 2004 the AFC team practiced at Rice?). Do we know if one of the two teams is practicing at Rice again this year (although it certainly would be more logical for them to practice on the practice field north of the stadium)??

The pumps have been restored and the field is now clear.

With that said, the NFL is in the process of brining our practice field up to their standard for the purposes of super bowl practice. No idea on which team.

I assume you mean the grass field in back of Patterson.

Nice!! A good salt-water soak does wonders for grass fields. :-)

THIS is what they meant when they said "Stanford's game at Rice to be played down under"

That looks right.
It looks so much taller in the reflection, which could happen with long swells, but there doesn't appear to be much wave action of that scale.

RE: Are y'all aware of Lake Rice ?
On one of the podcasts, JK mentioned that the NFL paid to remove the crown/flatten the surface, improve the drainage, and put in new sod on the grass field behind Patterson. The NFC team will be practicing there for SB week. He seemed quite pleased to get the improvements paid for by the NFL and will be much better conditions for football practices in Spring/Fall.
