Your ideal conference
This isn't to design for power. Or money. Or TV. Or anything else. Just the teams you want to play. But the conference does have to be realistic in organization and size. No 5 team or 25 team conferences, etc.

Georgia Tech Conference

Pod 1:
- Auburn
- Florida State
- Tennessee
- Vanderbilt

Pod 2:
- Georgia Tech
- U[sic]GA
- South Carolina
- Clemson

Pod 3
- Wake Forest
- Duke
- NC State
- North Carolina

Pod 4
- Virginia
- Virginia Tech
- Kentucky
- Maryland

The Old WAC:

Arizona
Arizona State
BYU
Colorado State
New Mexico
Utah
UTEP
Wyoming

Play NMSU and Texas Tech permanently for OOC. Keep it as regional as it can.

RE: Your ideal conference
I liked being an independent. All things being equal, I would go back to that if I have a choice. Alas, it's just not feasible for schools like mine (Pitt) to do that in this climate. It was better than any conference affiliation though.

RE: Your ideal conference
It kinda defeats the point of the OP, but for Miami you have to look at the time we're talking about. Based on where we've historically been (one of the best non-major football programs, annual postseason contender for basketball, good Olympic sports, decent enough attendance), a conference like the first wouldn't be quite as ridiculous as it is today. The second one is the 'realistic' option for 2017 so we wouldn't lose every basketball game by thirty-plus.

Miami Valley Conference:
Miami, UC, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Northwestern, Pitt, Marshall, West Virginia, Dayton, Xavier. Kinda like the old Big East meets Big Ten, with UD and XU not having football.

MAC-Plus:
The MAC of today, minus EMU, CMU, and Buffalo, plus UC, Marshall, and WKU. Still divided into East and West, but put a roof on Paul Brown Stadium and move the MACC there.

Louisville would have to be replaced by Kentucky. Also don't need 2 Alabama, South Carolina or Georgia schools.

Already in it. 03-cloud9

Although I wouldn't mind replacing Wake Forest with pretty much anyone else. WVU or Cincy comes to mind.

If conference championships have no bearing on being selected for the final 4 championship, i.e. Penn State, why have conferences at all? Let all schools be independents and schedule who they want.
